Suicide bomber blows self up in Jerusalem; 20 injured
By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent, and Ha'aretz Service
At least 20 people were reported injured when a suicide bomber blew himslef up Wednesday at the French Hill intersection in Jerusalem close to 7:10 P.M.
The head of Magen David Adom said that 20 people were wounded in the blast, five or six of them in serious condition.
The blast occurred next to a hitchhiking post in the city.
The head of Jerusalem district police, Mickey Levy, confirmed that there were fatalities in the blast, but did not provide any further details.
Police are searching the area for further explosive devices, Levy said.
Army Radio reported security sources saying that the attack might well have been carried out by a suicide bomber police have been tracking in the capital over the last few days.
Security forces are asking people to keep away from the scene of the blast. Police have closed the area to traffic.

The population of the United States is fifty times as large as that of Israel. Therefore, in proportion to population, if this attack had taken place in the United States, it would have killed 200 American civilians and wounded another 800. (In each case, the killed and wounded would be multiplied by 50 to reach the comparative result.)
Nothing more needs to be said. This suggestion is no different than the normal journalistic practice of making geographic comparisions. For instance, tiny nations or large icebergs are routinely described as "as large as Deleware" (or whatever) to give American readers a frame of reference they can relate to. Since many members of the media, especially from Fox and MSNBC, lurk on the FR boards, I suggest that all FReepers include in their posts the comparisons just suggested.
Take the dead and wounded numbers in Israel and multiply them by fifty, and post those numbers. If the press (at least the non-biased part of the press) learns this lesson, the effects on American understanding and opinions will be immediate.
