Is the tide turning our way?
On April 11, 2002, the International Criminal Court (ICC) became a reality.
On that same day, 19 members of the U.S. House introduced legislation
(H.R. 4169 -- The American Servicemember and Citizen Protection Act of 2002)
to protect American citizens both military and civilian from the clutches of
the ICC. As of today, H.R. 4169 has 39 cosponsors.
On May 6, 2002, President Bush officially renounced America's signature to
the International Criminal Court treaty. Three days later, 14 members of the
U.S. House introduced legislation (H. Res. 416) commending President Bush for
his decision. As of today, H. Res. 416 has 39 cosponsors.
On June 13, 2002, Australian Prime Minister John Howard stated he is
reconsidering his support for the International Criminal Court. According to
an Australian news service today, a member of the Australian Parliament Bronwyn
Bishop said most members of the Australian Parliament are opposed to the ICC.
"Mrs. Bishop said the ICC's arrangements amounted to a surrender of Australian's
sovereignty."
It was also reported today by the overseas press that Israel will NOT ratify the
International Criminal Court treaty.
Is the tide turning against the United Nations' long-held dream of a world court?
The International Criminal Court will be open for business on July 1, 2002. We
need to tell the ICC that we are not buying what they are selling.
Urge your representative to commend President Bush's decision against the ICC.

We need to make dumping the UN a campaign issue.
I'm with you 101%, brother, but I don't think the average, content citizen on the street out there will ever get it. They see the UN as a nice little group of idealists who just want to feed the children, make the world safe, blah, blah, blah.
More to the point, although I'm glad to see individual suceesses like the Bolton memo saying we're not going to be in on the ICC, I don't think any Republican or Democrat President or majority in Congress will ever take the necessary step of walking out on the UN. It pains me to say that as someone who's been registered Republican my whole life, but who is getting fed up w/ the lack of resolve in most of our "main stream" politicians.
That would be worth voteing Republican. However, I doubt it will happen.
The ICTY is the model for the ICC, so expect more neo-Stalinist outrages to anything resembling fair judicial procedures when the ICC "tries" its first "cases". Both the ICTY and the ICC are largely the work of the Egyptian "American" muslim fifth columnist Cherif Bassiouni, who was GLOATING when the ICC reached the necessary 60 nations ot ratify it. Bassiouni is a supporter of "enlightened" muslim fundamentalism, and believes that islamic sharia law is "perfect".
Bassiouni was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize last year. Let's give him a booby prize for humaniterrorism instead, and sink both the ICTY and the ICC!!!!
Not only has the President said "no dice"...he crossed out Clinton's signature. Gotta love that.
Sure the General Assembly is dominated by a kind of international rabble of failed nations. But the general assembly doesn't have any real power. Better that the rabble have the general assembly to let off steam in, then America become known as the country that did in the UN. I know some Freepers think of the UN as a step toward world-government or something , which would indeed be horrible. But in reality, the UN when it really matters often does exactly what we want it to do.
So no, don't get rid of the UN.
ICTY has audacity to contemplate subpoena for Wasington post journalist on grounds of getting more information. At the same time ICTY did nothing with available information to dismantle Osama Bin Laden's terrorist network in Bosnia,
The goal of ICTY is to undermaine western concept of jurisprudence and make way for ICC.
