Porter Bibb, Professor and author of "Tedd Turner: It Ain't as Easy as It Looks" appeared on the O'Reilly factor this evening.  During the discussion regarding Ted once again shooting his mouth off today on the subject of Israel and the Palestinians, Bibb mentioned this gem about Turner's youth.

When Turner was a student at Brown University, he was kicked out for painting swastikas on the doors of Jewish student's rooms.

This guy is a real piece of work.

It's true. They actually discussed the issue for a few moments. O'Reilly asked why Ted Turner would do something like this. Porter Bibb states that he had no idea but that the story was true.

I heard something about Ted's expulsion during one of the last times he shot off his mouth--but supposedly he was kicked out for curfew violations, or curfew violations with a girl, or something else along those lines.

But swastikas? Ooo, this could be entertaining.

Amy Carter had the distinction of being thrown out of Brown University as well. She was hanging around with Abby Hoffman at the time.......but I don't recall the offense that got her kicked out.

In the early 80s I thougt the guy was pretty sharp. He had won the (Sailing) world cup, or whatever the correct award was. He had started CNN and seemed a pretty good guy. Then it was announced that he was going to appear in the Larry King live time slot interviewing Fidel Castro.

I watched the interview. It was pretty hard to sit through. Ted would ask a question and Fidel would ignore it or answer only superficially, then branch out into pure propaganda about his island nation.

Turner sould sit there with his head bobbing up and down like one of those rear window car ornaments. He didn't challenge a word from Castro. It was clear that he was in absolute awe of the man.

By the end of the the hour Turner had completely destroyed any respect I ever had for him.

I would agree that Turner has a strong business sense, but his other traits truly do strike at the core of the claim that he is intelligent.

It was probably considered a campus incident, relegated to the round file as soon as he was booted. It would be interesting to see his school records. lol
