3 dead in Arkansas; Dallas link probed

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Three people found dead with gunshot wounds in a burning car may have been from the Dallas area, police said.

Jefferson County authorities are working with police in the Dallas area after the discovery of one body in the trunk and two in the back seat of a burning car last week, Jefferson County investigator Ken Slocum said Tuesday.

"It's definitely a homicide, but I'm not going to speculate as to any motive," he said.

Slocum said authorities are reasonably certain of the identities, but DNA tests are needed before releasing the names because the bodies were so badly burned. He said it could be several weeks before DNA tests are completed.

The bodies were found near the Jefferson exit from Interstate 530, about 15 miles northwest of Pine Bluff.

Slocum said authorities traced the vehicle's Texas license plates to the Dallas area. He would not say whether the victims died from gunshot wounds or the fire.
