I'm glad your dad is renewed in his realization that there are still patriots in this country.
My husband was of draft age during Vietnam and his father - the same man I mentioned earlier - told him he would help him get to Canada. Dad did not believe in it and refused to allow his only son to be cannon fodder - so I've got no problem with you having protested it.
I was too young. It's amazing the difference what only 5 years can do.
Many people don't believe that those that go before us us are still around - but I do. My husband attended his father's funeral, but not the burial - burials do not occur in the mountains of New Hampshire in March. I was with him the first time he visited his father's grave for the first time - it was almost 6 years later.
It is a private family cemetary that includes the Hales, Poindexters and Robins of the Revolution - I don't know who put their hand on my shoulder as I knelt to say my prayers at my FIL's grave - but I know it was not my husband. We were the only people in the cemetary at the time.
We are a family of no (blood-related) grandparents for our daughter - my husband's parents are in a better life together. I have been estranged from mine for many years.
I'm just thankful for the friends of his parents and the parents of my friends who are willing to be the surrogates.
God Bless All Our Fathers

What a nice picture!
A son whose Father became President; a Father whose son became president, and a woman who was both married to a President and is the Mother of a President!
Who would have thought that, at the time the picture was taken.
Beautiful! Only in America!

This is great. What you've said is that your dad isn't (or wasn't) one of those brain-dead dems. What really intrigues me is how did he turn out so many conservatives (from age 3)? Did he teach you to think for yourselves or were you just born that way?
Both mom and dad's parents imigrated from Poland in their late teens/early 20's. All met here. And I would say aside from being big democrats the family was always very conservative. All our family members were hard workers and looked out for themselves. They settled in Detroit and Buffalo and, I think at the time the Dems. probably were much more conservative and the union served a purpose at the time. They also did a lot to reach out to immigrants.
An interesting twist during communist poland. We still have many family members there and I had the opportunity to visit after the collapse. (mom visited several times during communism and it was pretty scarry) A major complaint was that families lost their property to the govenment once the prime owner died. It was said the government took the property. Not so.... the family had to sell it because they couldn't afford the death tax. Had that little arguement with mom and dad recently. They did NOT want to see the correlation that our gov't could be as bad as those big bad communists!!!

I could make a ND ping list. If I post one, will you ping? If I have to>>>>>>>>>>>>
Of course I will!!!
Some people might not like what I have to say - but I guess that's a personal problem - and I would never say anything that the Admin Moderator would get upset with me about.
