I can't blame the milkman -- he was just supplying information. And Edmunds may yet have a role to play in this case. At this point, we can hardly rule out anything.

I'm not blaming the Milkman, but just find it ODD that he notices this guy, and almost instantly, the dude's picture is up on all the networks as WANTED, but also...IS NOT A SUSPECT !!
Don't that strike you as odd?

Know because the little sister says it was So-and-So? Under these circumstances, I would want to test her statements by having a sketch done. It can never hurt.
To: Iwo Jima
I'm beginning to believe the milkman did it.

They all seem confident that Elizabeth is alive. Do you think they know the family member who has taken her.....this is so weird! If your daughter was taken, would you want to keep the faith that she was still alive? Weired? How would you react to a loved one being snatched from your home? The cruel, ignorant, judgmental criticism of some of the posters on this subject is a glaring testament to a total lack of empathy.

I'm beginning to believe the milkman did it. Sure, blame the milkman. That's what everyone in my family does when they look at my second son and wonder how he could possibly be related to my husband or me.

I thought you meant 'Chandra Theorists,' I suspect there is major crossover between the two.
Can't get into the Westerfield case yet unless some really kinky stuff comes up.
I will get into Utah Girl when the suspect is nabbed.

And the testimony of Mary Catherine may not be rock solid as to height and weight, I'm betting she could positively I.D. a face.

If your daughter was taken, would you want to keep the faith that she was still alive? Honestly? I am the ultimate pessimist. If I lose a child in the grocery store for 30 seconds, I assume he's been abducted. I can't imagine holding out any hope if my child were really abducted and it had been over a week that she had been gone. On the other hand, I know that many people aren't like me and would hold out hope. I don't think we can make any kind of judgement based on whether the family seems hopeful or not.

I see your point. It did cross my mind that the real perp could have seen Edmunds hanging around and thought "maybe if I do this, everyone will think that he did it." Edmunds sure seems to be most inept and, if he is not guilty, almost pathologically unlucky.
To: PoisedWoman
If they already knew who took Liz, that would also explain why they don't want sketch artist. They did use a sketch artist. That's how they came up with the guy Edmunds.
They persuaded the milkman(a minor hero) to pretend to have identified the person. The reason is obvious, and if you were in the same situation, it would be foremost on your mind, too.
Protect Elizabeth and Mary Catherine. He told Mary Catherine that if she told, he would hurt Elizabeth. The sketch was shown to everyone except Mary Catherine? Puh-leeez! even the least competent yokel deputy could do better than that.
The whole family polygraph thing is a ruse as well, to make the perp think that the family has witheld the truth from the police, as directed.
The note was probably more than just ransom, maybe not ransom at all. Some psychobabble about "loving" Elizabeth etc...
Hence the "wonderful story" schtick. "We understand that you love her and can see it from your point of view.." And the family in front of the cameras on and on about loving her -- a profiler's suggestion about how to get to the perp. Maybe the perp thinks the family doesn't appreciate her...
Get it? I just hope he doesn't lurk here.

My milkman does not wear a white cap, but his dairy products are 1st rate.

All I have to say on this subject tonight is that Fox News blew it big time tonight. Their FNAlert said flat out that Edmunds was in custody. Instead of checking his identity, which is what all the other news outlets were waiting for, Fox got greedy. They now look stupid. My opinion of their live newscasts has just gone down a few dozen notches.

Whether it's a kidnapping for ransom or whatever, if the perp thinks they don't know what he looks like Elisabeth Smart is safer. Maybe the 9 year old is spending her time looking at photos of criminals.
To: Yeti
You bring up some really good points and very possible.
To: PoisedWoman
I said that at post #127 on this thread. You did indeed.
Maybe great minds think alike ; )
And maybe I should read a thread more thoroughly before posting.
