You were at the old Olympia Stadium. That place was in the ghetto, much like Tiger Stadium. I remember the Olympia as a kid. The steps were so steep and scary. I believe that your boss was mugged for $2. That's they way it is in those areas. It's still that way. We have all new stadiums now in very safe and police patrolled areas. Detroit's renaissance isn't coming from the mayor's office, but from the suburban business and sport team owners and suburban fans.
We are now Cleveland without the glamour.

I used to date a hockey fan in 1971 and spent many an evening at Olympia Stadium. I think that's where I also saw the Beatles during their first world tour (I was a 7th grader then and with all the screaming you couldn't hear a word LOL!)
The rest of my family still reside in Michigan as does our hearts so go RED WINGS!

I lived in the Patrick Henry Apts. near Oakland Univ.
I got stopped by a great police officer the first time I drove by the Silverdome for speeding in a snowstorm. He wrote me up for driving with an out of state license because otherwise he had to arrest me. I got my MI license (what a joke of a test) and the officer got me out of the ticket in court (He said he would, but the judge was more difficult than he expected.)
I believe the new hockey stadium is in Auburn Heights. I used to snake down to I-75 through UNPAVED back roads off Walton Blvd. What was more unbelievable was that there were unpaved roads in the county down near 8-11 mile road. I heard most have been paved.
The VP who was murdered was not my boss, and it was unreal he was killed for so little.
When I went back east I either left through Port Huron or south around DET, never even got to Windsor.
