back in nyc we had to go to school till June 30th
so I remember Flag Day
we didn't get off school for it, but it was so close to end of Term
we got to play jumprope in yard all day

Morning again. June 30 huh? We were out by May 30 so we could go work in the fields - at least that was the original thinking, but very few townies had any fields in which to work.
School would start after Labor Day, when supposedly all the crops were harvested or in the barn. ;-)
