An FBI informant acting as an eager convert to Islam spent months in a Pembroke Pines mosque looking for Muslim extremists, leading the government to a young Pakistani radical before being dumped by the FBI.

Howard Gilbert, a Canadian Jew who dreamed of becoming a CIA agent, said he infiltrated the Darul Uloom Institute for more than a year as part of an FBI-sanctioned effort to expose Islamic militants. It was Gilbert who alerted the FBI to the extremist leanings of Pakistani immigrant Imran Mandhai, federal authorities say. Gilbert later was taken off the case.

The Darul Uloom Institute is the same mosque attended by "dirty-bomber" Jose Padilla, according to today's Sun-Sentinel.

No, but the leftist Sun-Sentinel chose to do so, and it will probably be picked up by other media and become a cause celebre for the "poor persecuted" American Muslim groups.

It's interesting how this mosque, which is now linked to two terrorism cases, was singled out for investigation two years ago, well before 9/11.

I was a communications security officer in the Air Force. This type of exposure is not only foolish but dangerous. I remember sitting in an Ops Plans vault working on the SIOP for a bomb wing. When I would hear personnel "talking around" classified material I would point out the violation and suggest that they use the "secure telephone" that was available in the Command Post. This early digital voice technology was imperfect at best because, the complaint went, it was like yelling into a well.

Last night I caught Sen Biden on "Hardball". He was disclosing closed door testimony which was WRONG but he didn't seem to care. This is where we need to tighten up our security. Don't the doofae know that a satellite tv feed is cheaper than satellite photos and agents on the ground?

This is a double edges sword. If all one has to do is "convert" to Islam (..means peace!) and condemn the West and all infidels, then what is stopping us from infiltrating them now?
