[history]
Former presidential candidate H. Ross Perot has been asked to testify next week in Sacramento to discuss allegations that his company helped fleece California's energy market.
State Sen. Joe Dunn, D-Santa Ana, on Monday formally requested that Perot appear June 20 before a Senate committee investigating whether energy companies manipulated the market during last year's crisis.

I worked with Perot Systems on a major upgrade of the prescription system of a large pharmacy chain.
Their drug interaction component, if it was not tested properly, would have been the end of the company.

This is nothing more than a publicity stunt. The Democrats know the TV cameras will be rolling and they might get more mileage out of castigating yet another business person for daring to strive for a profit.
Like Ross Perot will have anything to say that makes the least bit of sense. I hope ol' Ross starts rattling on about, "Popping the hood up and seeing what's wrong with the engine, then fixing it."
It will serve them right.

What do YOU bet that he sold copies to both Boneville Power and LADWP?
To: Carry_Okie
The market forces didn't need a Ross Perot handbook on how to circumvent California rules. These lawmakers are clueless, and professionals in the market are perfectly capable of looking at the rules, and looking at ways to get around them.
The power traders simply asked themselves how they could possibly sell at a profit given these goofy rules, and figured it out. Perot won't tell the lawmakers anything worth hearing, but it'll make for a fun exercise for both them and Ross.

What you say is correct. One does really have to look at the power brokers. Boxer and Diane?

I think Dog Gone means the "power traders" who trade electricity!

What do YOU bet that he sold copies to both Boneville Power and LADWP?From what I know LADWP did very, very well during the power crisis. BPA on the other hand, did not do well. Historically, BPA has been a "soft touch" as far as selling low and buying high in the market. Just about everybody has been able to beat BPA. From what I know of the 2000 & 2001 power crisis, BPA (through requests by Davis and Clinton Administration officials) had a gun to its head to sell at a low price to California or else to just arrange for exchanges of power with California in a way that would help California meet load and not cost California too much money. I remember one instance where BPA was suppose to spill water for endangered fish and BPA at the urging of California declared a power emergency, said to hell with endangered species and generated power for California. NW enviornmentalists went ballistic! Utilities, asked why BPA didn't charge more since any endangered species lost would come out of the hide of power interests in the PNW. BPA indicated that there was a power emergency and they were required to respond.
Nope, I don't think BPA will turn out to be a bad guy in this or at least not one who made any significant profits.

Maybe I goofed, but CA is in big trouble by electing the likes of our senators, and our governor. CA is probably the most beautiful country, but we have the most destructful voters--or candidates.
To: Robert357; JimRobinson
That's funny, because BPA was one of the public agencies accused of gouging the worst and did record some extreme prices. As far as the spill for the fish is concerned, that was always a bogus measure anyway.
I sure wish I could GoogleSearch the FR archives for those posts. An explanation of when they might be back (or why they won't) would help me decide whether to set up an archive of useful posts myself.

If it is an energy related post, talk to Ernest. He's the man.
