NEW YORK, Jun 09, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The district attorney's office in Los Angeles has evidence that purportedly shows Dec. 12 wasn't actress Winona Ryder's first shoplifting incident (though she's never been charged before), Newsweek has learned. Ryder was arrested on Dec. 12 at an L.A. Saks Fifth Avenue on charges of shoplifting and drug possession and is facing a trial.

Note that even the Hollywierds are scurrying away from her. Wonder how they all stayed aboard the USS Clintigula?

Yeah and the reason why the D.A's leaning hard on her is that considering her financial situation, there shouldn't even be a need for her to steal. And stealing luxury items is different from stealing a loaf of bread. Winona's no Jean Valjean.
To: RobFromGa
"I mean, look, she didn't kill anyone. I'm sure public sympathy is far more with Winona
than some department store."
I'm not a lawyer, but my pulse picked up when I heard she was indicted on four felony counts.
Although my guess is that it might not apply in this case, I had a happy feeling thinking
that maybe this would get her under California's "Three Strikes" law and we'd never
have to see another movie advertizment for her again!
(OK, I'm being a bit cruel. I do hope that she does get her feet held to the fire so
she will tell fans "Don't do this sort of stupid stunt!")

Read in NEWSMAX that Clinton paid off California branch of NOW, before Pat Ireland came on board. Only cost him $700K but they were broke at the time. I think he paid off a LOT of liberals.

The DA should charge her and convict her if they have evidence. And you know, I bet they would if they really had the evidence to prove it in a court of law. But since they apparently don't. They will put it out in the press in an effort to use unsubstantiated charges to get PR on their side for this trial.
I didn't care much either way about Winona Ryder but now I am rooting for her. Nobody should have an agent of the government put out information suggesting she is guilty of a crime she has never been charged with.

Guys. Have you noticed that, post-9/11, every controversial high profile case has come back with a guilty verdict? The legal "pundits" have been in a perpetual state of shock since 9/11! The killer dog case, Skakel, case after case... GUILTY!
My friends and I discuss this often, maybe we are seeing a new paradigm of making even the rich pretty people be accountable for their actions. I think it bodes ill for "nonie" (Barf) and Robt Blake.

All I know is that when someone gets Mark Geragos to defend them (McDougal, Condit, and now Winona), it means they're guilty as hell, and they need Geragos to find a way to weasel out (something he's good at - I wonder what he charges these suckers?).

Now why would anyone want to steal Winona Ryder before December 12?
To: VOA
I do hope that she does get her feet held to the fire so she will tell fans "Don't do this sort of stupid stunt!")Don't hold your breath. Her "performance" on SNL indicates that she's going to play "the victim" role to the hilt.

"She can get lost just in reading and thinking and listening to music."Same here. As far as I know, that doesn't give me a license to steal.

Her career is toast. She has no sympathy from the left or the right. The best she could do is go into rehab and cry out for a 2nd chance. Did you see the pic of her going to court in the afternoon in
long sleeves and a coat in Los Angeles??? This was in the heat of the afternoon! I think Wanna Rydeher has a lot of problems...she was caught with demorol(!)(
something they give CANCER patients for pain), percocet (another heroin derivative like demerol), and vikodan (!!!! another heroin derivative according to someone who knows). She's a mess. Plus she was caught cutting off the tags and had blood on herself, and also wet herself when she got CAUGHT. She's hung out with Courtney Love and they have both had a lot of plastic surgery (WR has had a bigtime nosejob, check her pic at classmates.com...Miss Horowitz got the nosejob so she could have a career with her major connections when she was a young teen).
Personally? I think she's a junkie...can't prove it but a warning bell was ringing when I saw her in long sleeves and a coat in the afternoon, plus her acting career is nowhere, she has tons of money...and she was best friends with Courtney who I think *might* be a major supplier of drugs (look at Kurt...not a junkie till he met her...her list of friends that she *knows* is immense, she lives her life in a mess, I can't substantiate...but I think she knows where the dealers ARE at least). WR is just a junkie-klepto at this point. Time for rehab.

I have been on both Demerol and Percocet, prescribed after surgery. And I was totally spaced. It felt totally euphoric and I was so happy and giggly. I can totally see how someone would get addicted to these drugs. Everything is good and wonderful while you are spaced on em. Never mind the fact that they are addictive.
It's really a shame the way Hollyweird chews people up and spits them out. Especially the women. No doubt in my mind I would be all stoned on happy drugs if I had to deal with that kind of life. I agree with you, she needs some rehabilitation.

So she "puzzles over things" and "gets lost." Ok. I'm sure this is an accurate description of "Nonie," another one of the late Timothy Leary's muddle-headed little darlings. First, she raises prices for the rest of us by shoplifting and not just once. And does she do it from need? Nope, she's filthy rich. She does it for the thrill. Then, busted dead to rights on store video and with a credible eye witness, she pleads not guilty, putting us all through the additional expense and ennui of a trial -- to say nothing of the jurors who will be compelled to sit through this farce, despite having other things they would rather do with their much less affluent and glamorous lives, little things like tend to their families and make an honest living, so that vacuous parasites like Ryder will have well-stocked department stores to loot.
Where's my Di-Gel?
To: dighton
As far as I know, that doesn't give me a license to steal.Or to carry around Oxycodone without a prescription.
"The major source of oxycodone to the street has been through forged prescriptions, professional diversion through unscrupulous pharmacists, doctors, and dentists, "doctor-shopping", and large-scale thefts. Oxycontin7 sells for $0.50 to $1.00 per milligram. A 40 mg tablet is sold for $25-$40, and the 80 mg tablets are being sold for $65-$80. The manufacturer has recently discontinued marketing the 160 mg tablets."
