Bush predicts turf battles in security overhaul

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Friday acknowledged he expects turf battles between federal agencies and congressional committees as lawmakers tackle his proposal to create a vast new Department of Homeland Security.

But he expressed his optimism that his proposal, unveiled in an address to the nation Thursday night, would prevail and would bring a new level of accountability to government anti-terrorism efforts.

Remember too that Lieberman has been very public about "cancelling" further implementation of the Bush tax cuts. Oh, but surely, the "conscience of the Senate" wouldn't count adding additional layers of governement bureaucracy as among his reasons. Sure, he's an "honorable" man.

Guys, I'm making another prediction we can all agree on: the homeland security department that will finally emerge from the bowels of Congress will bear little resemblance to the one proposed by the President. Count on it.
