Last summer they had hundreds of police, recruits, and I even think they had Nat'l Guard searching the entire Rock Creek Park, as well as cadaver dogs, searching for any trace of Chandra Levy. But they were all under the direction of DC Police.

After the turtle hunter found the remains of Ms. Levy in May 2002, the police again "thoroughly" searched the area where the remains were found; and news reports said that anywhere from 6 to 16 cadaver dogs were used in this search, as well as human (police) searchers. But again they were under the direction of DC Police.

My guess is that Ms. Levy's body was dumped in the woods of Rock Creek Park from the street above the park - Broadbranch Road, shortly after she was killed. The edge of the road gives way to the park via a very steep dropoff - a perfect place for folks to dump all sorts of unwanted items. Summers in DC are hot and humid. I find it difficult to believe that none of the legion of searchers caught a whiff of the poor girl's body in the woods. But the body was found on a steep hill... so maybe it was too much to expect that searchers would exert themselves by climbing it.

I've never been terribly impressed with MPDC, at least since my adulthood; they have a past history of hiring felons and misdemeanants (?), of having cops who pilfered drug evidence and sold it, of having cops who took recovered money and property, of having cops who have teamed up with tow truck drivers to rob drivers of their vehicles via a towing scam, and worst of all (IMO) of having cops who failed to keep their service weapons out of the reach of their own young children - leading to numerous incidents of these kids killing theselves with their parent's weapons.

Some MPDC housecleaning is in order, top to bottom. The residents of DC should demand it.

A few years back some local police asked my dive team to look for a .380 auto that was suspected to be in a stream near where a murder victim had been recovered 2 days prior. It was mid-summer and there was still a "grease stain" and piles of maggots where the body had been. The stench was unbelievable.

These DC cops are incompetent! When is the Chief going to stop making excuses and tender his resignation. Every time he appears on camera, he only embarrasses himself further.

Post #52 of Takoma gives rise to confusion, for Broad Branch is the road down by the creek along the Park border or edge, to enter the park one would have to cross the creek, but if you can do that (no big deal) it is 150 yards to body site, but UP steep slope on other side of creek.

It is Glover Rd that is within the park, up on the top of the "ridge/plateau" and which, just north of Picnic Site #17, reaches some 250+ yds from the body find site, across some ever-more-declining woods and scrub, then beginning to decline more sharply, but spine dumped (it would seem) just beyond the fallen tree, where the steep slope begins down to BB Road.

Perp would have had to go either

1. 150 yrd from BB (no parking, across creek and up steep slope) or

2. 375 yrd from Grant Rd bridge (no parking, no creek, last 250 yrds slaunch up along side of bluff) (sunglasses found where the 250 begin)..or

3. 300 yrds from Picnic Site 17 (gentle downslope, then becoming more difficult with slippy leaves, brush, fallen tree)/or

or 3a. From Glover c80 yrds N of PS17, no parking, some 250 yrds WNW to body site.

BOTH THE "3" ROUTES involve more risk of being seen/noticed, for they cross Glover, then after say 50 yrds more cross a maintained hiking trail (WRdgTrl) before declining...the perp would have more of a risk being seen...

But my info is this body was placed after about 5 AM in Daylight time, so pitch dark when arrived, then perp could leave openly by day...would help if he had someone to drive car, so not relying on parking off these little streets, only PS17 has a few parking places...
