Un-&%$^#@* believable (CHANDRA SHINBONE FOUND BY LEVY INVESTIGATORS, 25 YARDS FROM SITE)

(June 6th, 2002 -- 11:18 PM EDT //

Un-&%$^#@* believable. Despite giving them a hard time now and then I've always resisted the idea that the DC cops were really fundamentally incompetent, that the seeming inscrutability of Chandra Levy's disappearance and murder might simply be the result of ridiculously inept police work.

Now I've changed my mind.

As you no doubt know, Levy's remains were found recently in an isolated section of DC's Rock Creek park.

But a couple days ago a fellow Chandra-phile and I were watching Greta Van Susteren's show when she and a couple guests -- a renowned forensic pathologist and a retired DC cop -- did a walkaround through the area where Levy's remains were found. What they found a bit disconcerting was that there was a lot of stuff there that the police hadn't bothered to pick up -- a shoe, an empty condom wrapper, some rope, and some other stuff.

Almost certainly this stuff had nothing to do with Chandra's death. But it certainly could have. And certainly tons of people are going to go to the spot over the coming days and weeks to see the area and if this was evidence it'll be gone or compromised before long. The point is, you pick up everything and go through it to see if it might have any relevance to the case. (I know they're overflowing with hot leads and all but ...)

Anyway, it seemed like they'd done a pretty shoddy search.

Well, today the two Levy family investigators -- former DC cops -- went to scene to see what they could find. And what did they find? A sock? Panties? Some hair that might have been Chandra's?

No. Try her shin.

They found what appears to be her left tibia. (The bone hasn't been DNA tested yet. But on the basis of size and wear the DC Medical Examiner told the Washington Post that his "working hypotheses is that it comes from Chandra.")

The bone was apparently some 25 yards from where Levy's skull recovered. But this isn't like a toe or something. It's like a foot long.

It simply beggars belief.

However, many of us have known for years about the D.C. police. THEY ARE AS CORRUPT AS D.C. IS. It is a cesspool of corruption

Did either of you note that the #2 man in the D.C.P.D., Gainer, was just appointed Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police? Perhaps a nice fat payoff for keeping another Congresscritter out of the slammer?

Chief Ramsey looks a lot like that police chief on The Simpsons.

Post #52 of Takoma gives rise to confusion, for Broad Branch is the road down by the creek along the Park border or edge, to enter the park one would have to cross the creek, but if you can do that (no big deal) it is 150 yards to body site, but UP steep slope on other side of creek.

It is Glover Rd that is within the park, up on the top of the "ridge/plateau" and which, just north of Picnic Site #17, reaches some 250+ yds from the body find site, across some ever-more-declining woods and scrub, then beginning to decline more sharply, but spine dumped (it would seem) just beyond the fallen tree, where the steep slope begins down to BB Road.

Perp would have had to go either

1. 150 yrd from BB (no parking, across creek and up steep slope) or

2. 375 yrd from Grant Rd bridge (no parking, no creek, last 250 yrds slaunch up along side of bluff) (sunglasses found where the 250 begin)..or

3. 300 yrds from Picnic Site 17 (gentle downslope, then becoming more difficult with slippy leaves, brush, fallen tree)/or

or 3a. From Glover c80 yrds N of PS17, no parking, some 250 yrds WNW to body site.

BOTH THE "3" ROUTES involve more risk of being seen/noticed, for they cross Glover, then after say 50 yrds more cross a maintained hiking trail (WRdgTrl) before declining...the perp would have more of a risk being seen...

But my info is this body was placed after about 5 AM in Daylight time, so pitch dark when arrived, then perp could leave openly by day...would help if he had someone to drive car, so not relying on parking off these little streets, only PS17 has a few parking places...

I would just like to know if Chandra's remains were returned to her family. Can you imagine burying those remains and then being told that a shin bone was found in the area? Are these doughnut eaters going to send her home piecemeal? The damn asinine Washington, DC, police DON'T want to solve this crime! Who is giving them orders? Who is telling them where and where not to search and whether or not to use cadaver dogs? Who is telling them not to bother with taxi cab logs? Who is telling them to treat Condidit with kid gloves? Find out who is giving the orders and you'll probably find who is behind her murder.

How do you know about the time of day of the placement of the body?

By the way, from jogging along Broad Branch right outside the park, I can confirm that from the street into the park is a steep up slope.

We still don't know where Bill Clinton was for about five days from late April until May 2, 2001. We know Hillary was in Manhattan for a pizza lunch with Al D'Amato and Ed Koch at the time of Bush's White House luncheon on April 30. Condit was at the president's table at that luncheon.

Poor Chandra and her family.

The best chance they had to ensure that justice was brought to bear on Gary Condit has escaped because of police incompetence. :(

Hey, go easy on Ramsey. It's not like he had an instituion like the Smithsonian where there are expert archeologists and paleontologists who might have even found fetal bones!! Gosh, I guess Ramsey doesn't know how to think outside the box he inhabits!

Douche Bag!

"Are these police officers allowed to carry weapons? Isn't that scary if they do?"

I don't think Chief Ramsey could tolerate the additional weight of carrying a weapon, what with his epaulets, myriad of ribbons, badges, cordoned cord around his neck, offical Third World scramled eggs captain's hat, and clown shoes.

Re: #83 and #86...Now I'm even more confused than before. I just got home from work and decided, since Broadbranch Rd. is along my route home, that I would take the short detour to see what the route looked like for sure. I previously had been relying on my memory from riding the road years ago.

I followed Broadbranch from Nebraska Ave (southerly direction mostly) down past the DC cop car (with his colored lights flashing) who was guarding all the shiny, freshly painted bike rack/crowd corral railing along the side of Broadbranch Rd. And then I turned around a ways past Brandywine (in a private drive on the right side of BB) and drove past the site from the other direction, turning left off BB at Grant and through that neighborhood out to Connecticut Ave. and then on home.

It was dark along Broadbranch where it runs into the park; it was very dark. It was very, very dark. At the point where the police had placed the barricades (north of where the DC cop was parked) there was dense woodsy growth right out to the road. Because it was so very dark I was unable to tell if the hill went up or down; so I'll have to go back during daylight to check it out better. But where the DC cop was parked (north of Brandywine) it looked to me like the landscape dropped. And I noticed that the DC cop was parked in a convenient little paved pull-off spot. At the time I was there (1am), I only saw two cars driving in the northbound direction. When I stopped and turned around to go back out of there, I neither saw nor passed any cars at all coming southbound. This road is not heavily traveled late at night, even with the big news story to draw curious (nosy) folks like me.

Anyway, I will go back and check it out during the daylight hours, and report back (if anybody cares).

Hmmm, that may explain some things. Gonzaga is a Catholic high school here in DC. If he went there, this may explain how he missed Chandra Levy's body for over a year, and Gore_ War_ Vet's "stolen" truck parked a block from his HQ for two weeks. Ask any St. John's HS alumni and they'll say the same thing. :-)

Pat Buchanan is a Gonzaga graduate.
