(Reuters) - An American missionary held hostage for more than a year by Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines was killed and his wife wounded but rescued on Friday in a gunbattle between the kidnappers and troops, officials said. A Filipina nurse held hostage by the same Abu Sayyaf rebels -- which has links to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network -- was also killed in the firefight, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said in a statement

Me too, Jedismom. Me too. It breaks my heart to think of all the hell they were put through for the past year, and to have it end this way is bittersweet.
Lately, when I think of how cruel this world is becoming, I weep. I think it will get a lot worse before we're taken away. Time to put our house(s) in order....

The Philipino president won't let us conduct military action in her country except for training her troops.
Personally i think it's a bunch of horse s**t. U.S. troops are providing humanitarian assitance, that isn't their gosh darn job!

...fighting during heavy rain in the jungle of Zamboanga del Norte province on southern Mindanao island,...
That sounds like it really sucks.

No, they're training the Philippino soldiers to fight the terrorists...and our troops know that this matters. These terrorists are a particularly nasty bunch of brutal murderers and thugs who have burned down villages, macheted young children, genitally mutilated young girls and hide like cowards between brutal rampages in their attempts to establish a militant Muslim state in S. Philippines. We respect the Constitution of the Philippines which forbids us to participate in direct action, I believe.

"This morning, while it was still dark, our soldiers found footsteps..." Footsteps=footprints. No, I'm not missing the point of this tragedy. Just wondering what the hell has happened to the English language, while grieving the loss of these lives. My two cents... Flame away if you feel the need.

I wonder if there is more that we could have done for them I wish they would have had our troops do it and give the credit to the Philipinos. I'm sure our guys would have done the job right.
