The Last Words of Edmund Ruffin, Southern Patriot
1865

"I here declare my unmitigated hatred to Yankee rule -- to all political, social and business connection with the Yankees and to the Yankee race. Would that I could impress these sentiments, in their full force, on every living Southerner and bequeath them to every one yet to be born! May such sentiments be held universally in the outraged and downtrodden South, though in silence and stillness, until the now far-distant day shall arrive for just retribution for Yankee usurpation, oppression and atrocious outrages, and for deliverance and vengeance for the now ruined, subjugated and enslaved Southern States!
..And now with my latest writing and utterance, and with what will be near my latest breath, I here repeat and would willingly proclaim my unmitigated hatred to Yankee rule--to all political, social and business connections with Yankees, and the perfidious, malignant and vile Yankee race."

Arafat's not that eloquent - even in Arabic.

Although I disagree with equating the abolition movement to "do-gooder meddling" (it was no more so then, than the pro-life movement is today), I do know where you're coming from.
In essence, they went from championing a moral stance, to total nihilistic immorality.

You, sir, are entertaining! You either live in Lala Land, or you're doing it on purpose. If it's the latter, your a genius of comedy. It's hilarious!

The worst part is Neil Young is a Canadian! The ironies and hypocriy in that song are overflowing...and in that irritating, whiney voice! But, as you touched on, it did give rise to a masterpiece song.

beter to be "stupid silly people" than a scalawag! NOTHING is lower than a scalawag,a collaborator who turned against his own native state/people/culture.
being northern-born is NOT a BAD thing; being a damnyankee is almost as bad as being a scalawag.
ask japaneseghost, ELS,KLT, Race Bannon and other northenborns here if we PALEO-confederates hate yankees.
our own COL William Clark Quantrell was born in NYC;no better partisan ever fought the damnyankees!

If you are not interested, then keep your "Reb" hating opinion to yourself....

I was under the opinion it was fiction.....But then again, I like the movie for the reasons previously stated...and as for it not being insulting, THINK AGAIN....you just basically called ALL Southrons Lazy....if that isn't an insult, well WHAT IS? But you seem to get some sort of perverse pleasure in baiting those of us from the South...Enjoy it, while you can!
To: TonyRo76
Amen to that Bro. Tony... Hell, most people from Ohio that I know are pro-south anyway....Pleasure to have you in our "company"!
To: stand watie
William Clarke Quantrill was born in Dover, Ohio on July 31, 1837. I doubt he ever set foot in New York City.

WELL SAID!
i could also say the "filth that came down from the north" was INDISCRIMINATE in who they raped/looted/murdered/etc.
rich or poor, black/white/latino/indian, slave or free, young or old, male or female, military or civilian, ALL were seen as the same by the damnyankee horde. EVERYONE was PREY!
the WAR CRIMES of the damnyankees have ASSURED that the spark of flame of southron LIBERTY lives, if there was ever any doubt. damnyankees, in a sort of way, should be THANKED by us southrons!
for dixie FREEDOM,sw

Accuracy about what, the contention that the War Between the States was a moral crusade by the sanctified Union against the sinister Confederacy to abolish slavery? Sorry, I reject this simple-minded, grammar school interpretation of one of the most complicated and dynamic eras in American and even world history. Too much evidence and too many facts that tend to contradict that contention exist in plenty. Besides, this is more a socio-political agenda thrust on a segment of the population than it is a circumspect investigation in comparative history. Since the diaries of the Union soldiers themselves were replete with references to preserving the Union and fighting for the stability of the "old" republic, while virtually none existed for the putative goal of negro liberation and abolition, except for the tiny minority of abolitionists in the ranks of the Union Army. If you want to discuss the merits of state secession vs. national unity and how each relate to Constitutionality, then welcome. But if this becomes an unsubstantiated tirade about race, racism, and ethnic/cultural guilt, then forget it. Unless the entire panorama of America's "injustice" to all groups is measured in the proportion it deserves; selective, exclusionary, and one-sided treatment of this as an issue is preposterous. Unlike one trick pony posters, I am not defined by my user name or occasional posting interests, nor am I confined to a single identity group, as I will opine on a wide variety of issues unrelated to the south or the "Civil War". However, it is precisely the attempt by the current mainstream culture to erase, reinterpret, and politically correctly sanitize American history that brings me here and elsewhere. The cause of preserving history intact, without regard to current fads or passing political policies is always worth fighting for.

Lincoln wasn't "God." He was, however, the greatest President of the Nineteenth Century.
