Please call the U.S. State Department (Bureau of African Affairs, Chief of Bureau Walter H. Kansteiner 202-647-7371) and tell him not to sell the 14 Masai cows. Let me explain.

Earlier this week the New York Times reported that a tiny village of Masai tribesmen, located in the remoteness of the Uganda/Tanzania/Kenya border areas, had only recently heard of the terrorist attack of September 11. At first they couldn't understand how people could die jumping from a building (they live in huts a man cannot even stand up in).

I am truly touched. Here, in the most primitive place on earth, at last we find people who know the difference between good and evil.

Completely agree. I cried when I read that story. I hope we treat their gift with as much respect as they have given us by its generosity.

I caught some footage of this on FoxNews yesterday. One of the villages young men, is attending a university in the US to become a lawyer. He told his people what had happened in NYCity and they wanted to do something for the American people. I thought it was a very touching gesture. The Fox report said the cows would be sold and tribal jewelry would be bought, as a gift for the family members of the victims.

Make sure that those cattle don't get sent to Southern Kali to any ranches along coastal route 1. ( CHP officers shoot and kill six cows grazing near highway )

Four cows offed by CHP in lettuce field by route 1"

Thanks for the ping JH. Sometimes our people can be so shortsighted. Those cows could be a gift that just keeps giving.

The place may be primitive but the people must be civilized in every good sense of the word.

It is the "small" acts of kindness that make the world a wonderful place in which to live.

The address for the US Embassy is:

U S Embassy
P O Box 30137
Nairobi, Kenya

If anyone would like to send a thank you note, I'm sure they can get them to the Wasinkishu clan for us.

These people gave the best of what they had for us. I hope our people in power truly understand just what this tribe has done.

Hey, I'm just trying to protect those innocent cows.

Send them to LaLa land, and the CHP might blast them! That could cause a real problem.

You're welcome. I just wrote a thank you note and sent it via the embassy. I think Tony misunderstood the situation. I read an article that explained that Kimeli Naiyomah (the student) arranged the ceremony so I'm sure he would tell our ambassador the proper procedure for accepting the gift. I read that the beadwork he purchased with the money from the sale of the cattle was purchased from the tribe (thus making sure they did not suffer economically)
