I graduated in 1958 when the Defense Language Institute was known as Army Language School. Like the rest of the 18 and 19 year old kids, I was always on the lookout for an affair or two, but never heard of an office that handled the details for us.

Please thank your dad for his service. He certainly is no 'loser'! And thank you for your service too, TBob! Jen

A raggedy ass PFC in the Marine Corps has more sense than this Air Force Colonel with the Alligator Jaws.

Bwahahahaaaa!@!

Unbelievable! Privates and Lieutenants have more common sense than this guy.

Sounds to me like he knew exactly what he was doing. He was preparing for his retirement career. He might get a tv movie or book deal out of it,not to mention a speaking tour to Dim groups. He may even be picked by the DNC to run for office himself. Nope,it was most likely all part of his plan.

Don't you lose your pension and other benefits after a dishonorable discharge?

Yes,but it will never happen to him. He's now bulletproof, politically speaking. Any attempt to court-martial him,and all sorts of Dim US Senators and congresscritters will be up in arms over it,with more than a few probably saying "Bush is courtmartialing this hero for speaking the truth",yada, yada, yada. No way Bush or the RNC want to hear this,so he will quietly be allowed to retire with all his benifits intact.

3 years, 1st Lt. Enlisted, Engineer OCS, Viet Nam '70-'71.

We had a battalion commander (LTC) in Viet Nam who sounds very much like this guy. The only thing that excused him was that he was a reserve officer.

"Guess my dad was a loser. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years active duty as a LtC. Then again, he was prior enlisted in the USMC for three years, fought in Korea. So - since we don't know the officer in questions history - no one can really say anything about him."

No way your Dad was a loser...mustangers, the top ones, always top out at LTC..remember and revere your Dad as a "winner!"

I beg to differ. Quoting from the original letter:

"Face it people, Bill Clinton was a great president."

No reflection on LTC Butler's career or his capabilities as a soldier, but anyone who sincerely believes that statement is an idiot.

Here is a link to the original letter:

Never say "always", Chu.

I had an Uncle, enlisted in WWII, Silver Star, Bronze, and Purple Heart. Left the Army as sargent after the war. OCS three years later. Served in Korea and Viet Nam, as well. Retired in 1974 as a full bird. Three stints at the Pentagon. Retired after being passed over a second time for the War College. 'Up or out', no embarrassment in that.

Admittedly though his achievements were a rarity.
