Okay, 400 are runaways whom you can help only so much. Another 100 have been snatched by a parent are most likely not in danger. What about the remaining 500?

And if this is happening in Florida, who is to say that it isn't happening in other states?

This hit-piece was on the front page of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (remember, kids, that's "SHT" for short), our wholly-owned subsiderary of the NY Times. Interestingly, though, it's not to be found anywhere on their website edition. Maybe the webmaster is a friend of ours. Hey, I can wish, can't I?

And of course, Tom "Lyin'" Lyons was in there today as well, with this screed, "If governor's right on education spending, then voters must be wrong".

All the usual suspects…

School's out and they're at my house. Please come and get 'em. I can't keep enough snacks and soft drinks on hand and the bathroom's a mess.

Just wait until the next national election, I bet they'll show up, probably in Palm Beach.

This is Arafatian Orwelism of irresponsibility.

"You just hope and pray that nothing happens, and you do your darnedest to find them,"

Please, stop this "I am sinless CPS" crap and curl up and die. Parents are not sinless but certainly not as sinful as CPS.

They must've used the INS as their role model. NO ONE beats the INS when it comes to losing people.

Gee, government is as accountable for children as it is taxpayer money.

Anyone surprised?

I wonder how similar agencies in other states would stand under the same scrutiny? For instance-- New York? California? Texas? There are lots of children out there.

The FBI would resemble that remark.

Government knows best.

Fla. can't find 1,000 kids in state custody

And I suppose each one took a Gore ballot before disappearing...
