My favorite Southern flag....add a magnolia and it's the original flag of my homestate. I wear it proudly as the front tag of my beat up old Land Rover.

And, of course, with a gold star, it also becomes the original *Lone Star* Burnet Flag , the first flag of the Republic of Texas- and the one still flying over the Texas statehouse when Yankee occupation troops arrived there.

"I love the Union and the Constitution, but I would rather leave the Union with the Constitution than remain in the Union without it."

Ironic, considering how badly he abused the confederate constitution.

Hat's off to America's greatest president!!!

Today, June 3, is the birthday of President Jefferson Davis. No national holiday is set aside to honor the president, but thousands upon thousands of descendents of his constituents will will today remember this great statesman.

THE BONNIE BLUE FLAG

We are a band of brothers and native to the soil Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

As long as the Union was faithful to her trust Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. >p>Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand Then came Alabama and took her by the hand Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

And here's to brave Virginia, the Old Dominion State. With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate. Impelled by her example, now other States prepare To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.

Then here's to our Confederacy, strong we are and brave, Like patriots of old we'll fight, our heritage to save. And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer So cheer for the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.

Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise a joyous shout For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out; And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven!

I've heard the Nashville statue described as *Rabid Popeye* and *Colonel Sanders on PCP.*

But I've not seen it, just the picture, so I'll not judge without a visit- to which I'm not looking forward.

I can only imagine what the General himself might have thought of it, and can add that the one in Memphis is a fine place to spend a summer afternoon with a picnic lunch and some cheese, a bottle or two of root beer or cider, and an aple to leave for Number 30, Forrest's bronze steed. Though some believe that the park squirrels are getting those apples, I prefer to think otherwise.

It was meant as a political statement and after all the hullabaloo, it made the creator look like a first class buffoon. Had I an extra 50K or so lying about I would be tempted to offer to erect an appropriate bronze of old Bedford. It's a real shame to go through all sorts of crap with Nashville's black community "leaders" and the soft as putty guilty white establishment howling charges of racism and then to triumph in the end and then end up the fool. The whole saga which had erupted right after I moved up here reminds me of the old adage about "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". The fellow who took it upon himself to engage in such foolishness however well intentioned should hide his head in shame.

Worse, they don't even keep the hideous site up well.....next thing you know they will have a trailer and cars on blocks surrounding it. I asked one of my local native friends who is sympathetic to our defense of heritage. He warned me this fellow was not running on a full tank. Neither was the ..er "sculptor" it appears...LOL

Regards..

The one of which I'm particularly fond is the one depicting him with 16-year-old Emma Samson, searching for the Black Creek ford in time to get there furstest with the mostest...

I am a Confederate general. I am trying to capture and kill the Yankee soldiers across the creek yonder. Get up behind NOW and show me the ford, girl! There is no time!

Headquarters in Saddle, May 2d, 1863.

My highest regards to Miss Ema Sansom for her gallant conduct while my forse was skirmishing with the Federals across "Black Creek" near Gadisden, Allabama.

N.B. Forrest, Brig. Gen. Com'd'g N. Ala.

"What is your mother doing wearing boots and spurs? - Private of the 4th Michigan Cavalry in response to Varina Davis' claim that the person he was interested in was her mother but who was, in fact, Jefferson Davis.

The Battle Cry of Freedom

Yes, we'll rally 'round the flag, boys
We'll rally once again
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
We will rally from the hillside
We'll gather from the plain
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

Chorus
The Union forever, hurrah, boys, hurrah!
Down with the traitor, up with the star!
While we rally 'round the flag, boys,
Rally once again
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

We are springing to the call
For three hundred thousand more
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And we'll fill the vacant ranks
Of our brothers gone before
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

Chorus

We will welcome to our numbers
The loyal, true and brave
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And although he may be poor
He shall never be a slave
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.

Chorus

So we're springing to the call
From the East and from the West
Shouting the battle cry of freedom
And we'll hurl the rebel crew
From the land we love the best
Shouting the battle cry of freedom.
