man that sure looks better than that pitiful cartoon statue of Bedford here on I-65 south in Nashville.....

I've heard the Nashville statue described as *Rabid Popeye* and *Colonel Sanders on PCP.*

But I've not seen it, just the picture, so I'll not judge without a visit- to which I'm not looking forward.

I can only imagine what the General himself might have thought of it, and can add that the one in Memphis is a fine place to spend a summer afternoon with a picnic lunch and some cheese, a bottle or two of root beer or cider, and an aple to leave for Number 30, Forrest's bronze steed. Though some believe that the park squirrels are getting those apples, I prefer to think otherwise.

It was meant as a political statement and after all the hullabaloo, it made the creator look like a first class buffoon. Had I an extra 50K or so lying about I would be tempted to offer to erect an appropriate bronze of old Bedford. It's a real shame to go through all sorts of crap with Nashville's black community "leaders" and the soft as putty guilty white establishment howling charges of racism and then to triumph in the end and then end up the fool. The whole saga which had erupted right after I moved up here reminds me of the old adage about "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". The fellow who took it upon himself to engage in such foolishness however well intentioned should hide his head in shame.

Worse, they don't even keep the hideous site up well.....next thing you know they will have a trailer and cars on blocks surrounding it. I asked one of my local native friends who is sympathetic to our defense of heritage. He warned me this fellow was not running on a full tank. Neither was the ..er "sculptor" it appears...LOL

Regards..
