agree when you involve youself in recreational high risk activities you should not expect others to risk their lives to save yours. Personal Responsibility is the answer. If you want rescued go in groups with others who share your interest and use the buddy system.

I don't have it officially, but it's my understanding from relatives in Oregon that the climbers were not "thrill seekers." They were city fire fighters.

For the record, if this was a training exercise, I would have no problem whatsoever with any measures taken to save these folks.

I caught just part of an interview on Fox this afternoon with a man who was part of a fire/rescue squad. He seemed to be saying that there were several different groups on the mountain .... including one of theirs on a training mission. None of their people were injured in the original accident but they were right there on the spot and were able to start lending aid and assistance immediately.

Perhaps someone else saw more of this interview and can fill in more details or make corrections to my version.
