Bunker Hill was just a little misunderstanding between the colonists and the British. Both sides wanted to use the spot as a picnic area. Unfortunately, a conflict evolved, an NOONE wanted an argument, so the colonists left to find another place, graciously ceding the hill to the Redcoats. Same thing happened at First Manassas, but the Confederates told the Yankees to find their own damn spot!

Not to put the Texans down, but they WERE fighting Santa Anna.

In modern terminology, Santa Anna can be considered a dumb@ss.

He was a VERY charismatic leader, managed to gather armies together no matter what the circumstances.
He just couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.
The only reasons this idiot was in power was:

1. His home province was Vera Cruz. Vera Cruz was the location of the treasury.
He obviously didn't worry about money with the entire government budget only a good walk away.

2. "Right place, right time" He managed to kick out Spanish and French invasions, mainly by denying entry to the mountains, leaving invading armies to suffer from yellow fever.

3. Lack of anyone else. Seriously, he was one of the few Mexican caudillos (warlords/strongmen) to stay in power for a significant time during the 1800's.
Hell, he even managed to get the presidency one last time even after losing HALF THE FARKING COUNTRY!

Of course, he then completed the Gadsden Purchase and was finally exiled for being such a dumb@ss.
To this day, I doubt any statues in Mexico are dedicated to Santa Anna.

This is the Houston school district, which is a typical, liberal, bloated, poor-performing inner-city school district. It's not representative of Texas, nor is it even representative of Houston, which has several extremely good school districts.

I can assure you that HISD is neither a role model, nor typical of Texas school districts.

Texas defeated Mexico but the Mexicans are reclaiming Texas via illegal immigration and by virtue of a very high birth rate. Having 20 children is common in Mexico.......machismo, they call it! This is why homogeneity of a population is a positive, not a negative quality. The alternative leads to this sort of split-personality, loss of a cohesive heritage.

There is no problem, if a society allows in the individual of another inheritance, another race or culture. In that situation, he accepts the climate of his adoptive land; their heritage becomes his; his gratitude for being there may make him more avid in its defense than those originally born to it. But the in movement of large numbers alien to that heritage, within a short time frame will inevitably lead to this sort of corruption.

This is not to single out the Mexicans; although they differ more widely than past waves of immigration from the traditional American norm. But New York, even under waves of Caucasian immigration in the early 20th Century, moved sharply to the Left; away from the politics of the American mainstream, or her own earlier leaders. For example, contrast Grover Cleveland's values as Governor of New York around 1880, with his fellow Democrat Mario Cuomo, a Century later. (Not sure of the spelling, and my point really does not require that I look it up.)

Do not misunderstand me. My views are not based upon an antagonism to foreigners. Three of my four grandparents were immigrants. My views are based upon a fondness for Americans and the uniquely American tradition. Liberal immigration policies will lead inevitably to its destruction. (See Immigration & The American Future.)

I was a young child during World War II, but I well remember the song that rallied America, "Remember Pearl Harbor, As we did the Alamo." It is my prayer that Texans will not allow that type of American spirit to be snuffed out in these days of confused purpose, and attempts to accommodate that which simply will not accommodate.

That is dead on Dog. As a graduate of HISD I received a fine public school education. It is now and has been a total joke for years. I could not send my son to HISD. Regarding this article, I wish Orwell was alive to read this. Folks, they are taking our culture and our country away from us. We lost at the Alamo, but we whipped Mexico's ass in the war.Texas history had a great deal in shaping my character, and I am very proud of my heritage. GOD BLESS TEXAS, AND AMERICA.
