Senator Daschle's Job Performance Review
23.8% = Underperforming After a year as Senate Majority Leader, Senator Daschle has little to show for it. Senator Daschle's year as Senate Majority Leader has been a year of delay and obstruction. With no budget, unable to outline priorities, and an inability to pass legislation, Senate Democrats have failed to lead. While the House of Representatives is addressing the President's compassionate conservative agenda for national, homeland, and economic security, Senate Democrats continue to ignore their responsibility to the American people.
Part of the Daschle-50 are critical pieces of legislation dealing with anti-terrorism, taxes, pension security, and corporate accounting reform that have passed the House of Representatives and are stalled in the Daschle controlled Senate. Anti-terrorism
Taxes
Pension Security
Accounting Reform
Small Business Interest Checking Act of 2001 (H.R. 974)

I agree with you there. I don't want the govenment to "help" me or try to take care of me. I want them to leave me alone. Unfortunately, the only time that happens is when they are paralyzed by gridlock. However, refusing to hold hearings for judicial nominees is absolutely unforgivable. I wish the voters of South Dakota would just put this country out of its misery and get rid of this guy.
Daschle is tacking left to get on the Democrat ticket in 2004.
A majority of the same sleazy cruds also voted for Bush in 2000, which provides some hope that the state isn't a totally lost cause.
Who is the source of this 28% rating, BTW? Congressional Quartlerly?
Had enough of traditional politicians? Even the best of them can be intimidated by the likes of Tom Daschle. The kind of tough, uncompromising leadership that the Free World requires likely only exists in the land of fictional characters.Enter Lord Vader. It is impossible to imagine Lord Vader bending over backwards to a pipsqueak like Daschle. Rather if Daschle got out of line at a meeting, Lord Vader would simply use the Force to constrict his windpipe and achieve what had hitherto been considered impossible: he'd shut him up.
Oh if only.
Regards, Ivan
Read that book. Best book ever written about how the Senate REALLY operates.
You will LEARN more about REAL politics reading Master of the Senate than you would learn from any poly-sci class. In some ways, LBJ was SUPERHUMAN. He took what was a NOTHING Senate Leader job and turned it into something that gave him almost absolute control of the Senate. On the negative side he was also very narrow in a lot of ways. For example, I doubt if he read any history. This didn't affect his performance in the Senate but it did have disastrous consequences on his presidency. I can't wait to read Caro's fourth volume.
BTW, a lot of reviewers have said that Master of the Senate made LBJ look quite good. From what I have read, I just don't get that impression. True, the book shows the political genius of Johnson but it also shows what a power hungry monster he was. As Caro said in the book, power corrupts...sometimes...but it ALWAYS reveals. And LBJ was revealed as a monster (according to this book) after he became Senate Majority Leader.
BTW, Daschle doesn't hold a candle to LBJ in the ability dept.
