One person said that he felt that "Pioneer" was more appropriate since it was a "new" school (get it? Pioneer?) the students would in a sense be "Pioneers", they would have a "Pioneering attitude".Cuba's "Young Pioneers"Just an opinion.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

exDemMom, meet mydogdaisy. Someone else FReepmailed me that FReepers gotta pick their battles-- they want to make sure this one is worth fighting for.
Woodland seems to be a pretty conservative, Republican town.
Funny-- Woodlands' local paper called The Daily Democrat?

Watch out Archy, you are treading on thin ice. Our Red Star pre-dates the CCCP red star by about 70 years. And we weren't even close to being a socialist republic until Governor Moonbeam, Comrade Gray Davis, and the other leftist glitterati started their dirty work. (There was always Santa Monica, though, a People's Republic from way back.)
