Phone calls to each of these individuals from us freepers will help.

Get on the local talk shows. If you can get a host going on this, you could get a lot pressure going.

I am partial to American Warriors, you know decked out in BDu's Kelvar, camo face paint, M-16a2's, etc, that ought to frost the PC Crowd.

No, they're naming it after Pioneer Electronics, makers of many fine audio and video products. Just see if the school board members all have new DVD players after this.

Perhaps MR. ROBERTS memory could be kept alive another way. By a memorial plaque at the base of the school flagpole, with a dot.com address to a MR. ROBERTS info/bio page that has a link to an FR thread about this time in history, what happened to MR. ROBERTS on the battlefield, as well as the battle for the memory of Neil Roberts.

Besides if you named the school after Neil Roberts what would you call the mascot the Americian Warrior, can't do that, that would be politically incorrect

The Woodland "Fighting Seals" kind of has a ring to it.

memorial placque

Sometimes, it pays to think outside the box. A memorial placque would be a fitting tribute for Roberts' alma matre. This is a new school with NO ESTABLISHED IDENTITY. The school could be renamed for someone else down the road-- why should it be a politician or school board member?-- at least it won't be Davis High-- there is one, already (in Libby Davis). Roberts put Woodland on the national radar, right mydogdaisy?

No it was really called the William S. Cohen school.

I add strange to to name case he in is own way reminds me of Robert Strange McNamara, killer of US soliders to save a few cents per rifle.

BTW when some peace niks decided to protest the naming of the school they were thrown out.

Seems billy boy can't stand portest any more than his master billy the boob.

Hey, without a doubt they'll become the 'Pioneer Pioneers' or the 'PPs' for short. {:~)

...the board listened politely, then voted, and decided to name the school Pioneer High School
instead of Niel Roberts High School.

I wonder what the color of the suns are on the home planets of these board members.

Name the school after the "Pioneers"?
Which ones?
The "Young Pioneers" of the USSR?
The "Pioneers" that (and I guarantee the PC crowd will go after this one) rid California
of grizzly bears and wiped out some Indian tribes (read that "genocide") ?

This board must be hard-core anti-military if they first decline to name the
school after Roberts, then decide to use a name that will get slammed by some group of citizens.

If the school board had any imagination they would have compromised and agreed to name the gym or auditorium after Niel Roberts. Maybe they should be pressed on that. You might then see what their real agenda is if they turn it down.

That's a good compromise-- the football stadium could be a possibility, too. If the community members would fund-raise, it could put some money on the table to bargain with.

Meanwhile in San Jose the city approved and paid 700,000 dollars for a ststue to the Aztec god of human sacrifice. That should tell you which groups matter in todays society. This crap goes on because the great unwashed are too busy or lazy to get involved. Activists have taken over the country. The only way to beat it is with our own activists lobbying for the things we want. Either tat or just resign ourselves to the seizing of power by the looney tune factions.

Seems likely, considering the Red Star of the California state flag:

Thanks for the heads-up, from a Woodlander. I'm not sure what I can do, though, maybe some letters? I wonder if this issue could be placed on the ballot?

For some reason, I had thought the school was going to be named after Neal Roberts. I believe I heard a proposal for the other high school to build a memorial for all of Woodland's war heroes. I hope that is still going to happen?

I don't know how anti-military one can say Woodland is; the military services do enough recruiting here. The Navy got my son... Unlike our liberal neighbor to the south, Davis, Woodland seems to be a pretty conservative, Republican town.
