I'm actually surprised more celebrities aren't conservative-- no government program ever made these people stars.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you made that statement in jest.

Surely you don't subscribe to the notion that a person's political attitudes are determined by his or her degree of dependence on the nanny state.

I happen to know a number of government employees who would fall into the conservative camp, at least on matters that don't have an effect on their income and benefits.

Actors, artists, writers, musicians, and just about everybody involved in broadcast journalism -- from the networks on down to your local traffic reporter -- are overwhelmingly to left of center politically, but that's old news. The "Hollywood Ten" were only the tip of the iceberg; the Communists had to establish a number of fronts to handle all the would-be members of the CPUSA in the '30s and '40s, such was the degree of activism among movie people.

Whether we like it or not, conservatism in not exactly a family value in Hollywood.

Being a liberal is somewhat like saying one understands abstract art; to be a liberal is to be "intelligent" just as understanding abstract art is a sign of "intelligence." Anyone can be liberal just as anyone can paint an abstract painting. All you have to do to be a liberal is find some "social injustice" to champion, hate your own country, and support confiscating other persons's wealth while not lifting a finger to correct the problem.

Many times, people's beliefs are defined by their life experiences. I don't see what is so odd about believing that people who don't use government assistance to get where they are might be likely to support less government interaction in everyone's lives.
