That is so wonderful about your daughter Mustang. I am so happy for all of you.

We are hoping to go to the Conference. But with our home here up for sale it really just depends on what is happening with that.

I do so much hope to meet you in person one day. That would be so special.

There's an abundance of indoor and outdoor entertainment spectaculars along the Las Vegas Strip. Most of them are freebies, a few have a nominal charge.

In front of our freeper conference hotel (Treasure Island) a live Pirate Battle is waged daily every 90 minutes beginning at 4:00 PM. If you prefer, you can indulge yourself with an exotic adult beverage inside the hotel as you watch the pirate show from the other side.

At the Las Vegas Hilton, you'll be beamed aboard the bridge of the USS Enterprise where you'll get to interact with crew members in a "Star Trek Experience". High-tech stuff, believe me!

Every 15 minutes each evening, the fountains in front of the Mirage come alive in a flaming Volcano Show. It's incredible! The flames are even coconut scented! Pretty cool!

The lake in front of the Bellagio hosts an eye-popping Dancing Fountain Show to a wide range of music. The Bellagio is easily Las Vegas' classiest hotel. It deserves a walk through it to gape at all the wonders, including an extensive botannical garden and a renowned Gallery of Fine Art.

Close your eyes and imagine you're in Venice as you take a romantic evening gondola ride through the Venitian Hotel. Tour past the fabulous Grand Canal Shoppes (you can stop and shop), let Italian opera singers serenade you and watch the talented "street" artists all around you.

If you're on a shoe-string budget, Las Vegas will keep you entertained every minute of your spare time and you can certainly enjoy "la dolce vita" on the cheap!

And I have tons of photos of the 1998 DC FreepFest, many of them with you and your bright red hat in them! We had a great time, wonderful speakers, fantastic comeraderie! Enjoyed meeting you and a few thousand other Freepers!

You just convinced me to visit Vegas. I don't know if we will be able to be there for the conference, that is too far in advance for us these days, already being torn many different places at once. But as soon as life settles down a bit, a short trip to Vegas is in order for hubby and me! We are living in LA, Ca. area right now. (In Claremont) Vegas is a short drive away. I think we will check it out!

diotama, what do we tell the hotel to get the reduced rate?
Do we tell them that we are coming for the "FRiva Las Vegas" conference?

You have freepmail! However, for the record: when you call the hotel to book the rooms tell them you are with the Free Republic conference. They will book you with the conference rate.

What's the deal on that vertical wind tunnel, that pseudo-skydiving attraction? I heard its closed, is it? Also, how do you deal with all those meskins handing out the hooker info? :)

I've spent a year some nights in some locations. Luis' reference surely refers to a single night's stay in some places seeming like it lasted an entire week.

Places where I've spent a year one night include Chicago (bitterly cold and rainy), Nebraska (bad motel room, noisy people next door, and no reading material), and parts of Alabama.

Deb, you'll find out in Las Vegas what timing is all about. One day can feel as if it's a week.

Can't wait to meet you.
