[history]
The uniformed leaders of the U.S. military believe they have persuaded the Pentagon's civilian leadership to put off an invasion of Iraq until next year at the earliest and perhaps not to do it at all, according to senior Pentagon officials.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff have waged a determined behind-the-scenes campaign to persuade the Bush administration to reconsider an aggressive posture toward Iraq in which war was regarded as all but inevitable. This included a secret briefing at the White House earlier this month for President Bush by Army Gen. Tommy R. Franks, who as head of the Central Command would oversee any U.S. military campaign against Iraq.

I have searched and searched, but haven't found this posted elsewhere. My apologies if this is a duplicate, but I can't believe that nobody has posted this!

Sounds good to me. Let your enemy know that you will be coming over much later, if at all, then pay a surprise visit.

The generals and the suits disagreeing on how to wage war.

Hardly done in haste, and I wasn't aware that I'm supposed to search every possible typo and misspelling. That said, I did see one post about "Iraw," but from a different source -- the leftist BBC, I believe.
But thanks so much for your incisive contribution!

Rush seems to think it might be misinformation. We are making preparations in the area for war. He may be right...

The whiners in the Pentagon press asked Rumsfeld about this this morning. Rummy absolutely refused to talk about plans.
Leakers need to be outed and fired, unless they are practicing disinformation, but then how would we know?
Somehow, I just don't think people in the Pentagon would leak to the Post unless they were Clintonistas. This may simply be the Post searching for information.

Either they're with us or are against us - must mean Iraq is with us on the War Against Terror now, I guess.

Just meant as some tongue-in-cheek fun, that's all. Sorry if it offended.

No problem -- I just thought you'd become one of the Posting Police. :-D

I think it's either disinformation or clintonistas. Even though he's been out of that office for more than a year, he is still damaging us.
But here's to hoping that it's disinformation and we'll soon be giving saddam the ass-kicking he so richly needs.

I don't consider Iraq an imperative target in our war against Islamic Terrorists. IMHO, Iran rates much higher on that scale and should be second on our list after Afghanistan.

The uniforms and suits both know, we do not have the needed manpower. Yes we can eradicate Saddam, however, if something else crops up at the same time, the cupboard is bare. This is a game they are playing, with the acquiescence of each other. The military needs a DRAFT and they know they are not about to get one.
