The Oregonian was among the 23 of the top 50 daily newspapers in the country that has lost circulation since Sept.11, according to statistics from the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations report.
The Oregonian's circulation fell 2.7 percent to 348,000 daily and 425,000 Sunday in the six months ended March 31. Those figures make it the 24th-largest paper in the country.
Among the biggest gainers cited in an Advertising Age article are the New York Post, with a 15. 4 percent jump, and the New York Times, with a 3.8 percent increase.

Why am I not surprised?
Could it be they are too...liberal?

They give it away on-line, without the mess, the fuss, and all the ads. What kind of fool pays for that junk anyway?

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Washington Times, new subscribers during the month of May will receive a subscription for one year for $20 (minus Sundays). It would be great for the Washington Post to lose circulation while the WT gained. Anyone meaning to subscribe but procrastinating, now's the time. Such a deal!

Why is this news??? Maybe if they had only two liberal editorials to every one conservative instead of the current 4:1, they might increase their circulation?

I know. I cancelled my subscription and now they are giving it to me for free
for a couple of months and I am tempted to cancel it.
Even free this paper bugs me.

Thanks for making my day. The Err-I-Go-Again is such rubbish, they couldn't pay me to read it. Plus, they phone blitz me about 5 times a week with subscription pitches.
Even the Willamete Week is less offensive. At least they don't pretend to represent mainstream opinion.

Yes.  The public is no longer "buying it."  A Sam Newhouse paper rated a few years ago as the most liberal paper in the U.S. in cities over 125,000.

It is a real shame, but they also bought up the Hillsboro Argus
and that used to be such a nice conservative newspaper and now their editorials are getting downright liberal.
Had to cancel that newspaper too

Thank God for Free Republic

"Most Liberal newspaper eh?..I believe it.
One of the worst parts, are the "letters to the editor" They must handpick them every day from the DNC office or the DU.
I can't believe people are really that deceived.

A good sign though that Kevin Mannix did as well as he did.
The liberals really promoted Saxton for GOP candidate for governor.
It didn't work: the most conservative person who spent half the money the others did, won the nomination anyway.
I hope all conservatives in Oregon will rally behind him in November

Go Mannix!!

Great news! I can't think of a newspaper that deserves a falling circulation more than "The Oregonian" does.

I thought you people might appreciate this bit of news.
Just a way to vent some of our frustrations built up over the years here in Oregon.

You have to factor in that Oregon has the highest unemployment in the nation. For the unemployed, a newspaper is a non-essential.

Sure, that is a good point, I am one of them.
The economy here in the Northwest is horrible and no immediate end in sight

I am now working on building up my own company

LOL! No, Force of habit from talking online in political forums so many years. I didn't see a link to the Oregonian's 'OregonLive.Com,' so I posted one.

I read several Oregon newspapers daily, and this was just second nature to do this with no trouble.

"...they phone blitz me about 5 times a week with subscription pitches.

Yeah, but I've found a way to have a bit of fun when they call me. I let them make their pitch, then I pause a bit, as if I'm puzzled, and then say, "Why would I need the Oregonian? I don't have a parrot." There's usually a pause while the wheels turn for awhile, then a "Oh. Maybe some other time."
