D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officials investigating the death of Washington intern Chandra Levy have interviewed a man serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park last year, ROLL CALL DAILY is planning to report on Thursday.

D.C. Metro Police investigators have "talked to" Ingmar Guandeque, who was arrested in July 2001 after attacking two females (one in May and one in July) who were jogging along the Broad Branch trail in Rock Creek Park. Levy's decomposed body was found Wednesday along the Broad Branch trail in a heavily wooded area.
A second official close to the Levy investigation said that while Guandeque was interviewed after Levy's disappearance last year, investigators are now taking a closer look at him since the intern's body was discovered.
"Clearly there are some coincidences and links -- just because of the proximity of where he [committed his crimes]," said a source close to the investigation.
ROLL CALL's Amy Keller reports: Guandeque, who lived on the 1400 block of Somerset Place Northwest, was arrested last summer and sentenced in February 2002 to two concurrent terms of 10 years' imprisonment for a pair of assaults of female joggers in the Broad Branch section of the park.
The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.

He had all the more reason to deny if he knew he'd killed one of his victims.
Just thinking: if this guy was hiding in the woods around that time waiting for his victims, could he have witnessed Chandra's murder, assuming he didn't do it? Any deposit on his bank account?
You don't read a lot of mystery stories, I would guess. One had already been written (link posted here) “a 1999 novel "Capitol Scandal" by Sarah Gregory. It's the story of a Democratic congressman and an intern with whom he was having an affair. Then something horrible befalls the intern. Her body is found in Rock Creek Park. In fact, Rock Creek Park is mentioned in the second paragraph. The park is the choice of 'Washington runners of the lean and mean variety. ...”
I don’t recall any stories of her discussing Condit to any extent with “cofidants” – and why would that have been a deterrent if it were a crime of passion, or more likely, a crime of expediency (not to hide the affair, so much as to shut her up about something else) carried out by an emissary?
I smell a great movie plot here: the murder is planned based on the above novel, (or at least on the fact that Rock Creek Park is a haven for joggers, but not a very safe one), and then money and influence are used to persuade Mr. Guandequ to stage some phony attacks (the judge said they were “strange”), and take the fall if the body is discovered. Chances are they won’t be able to pin it on anyone, given the condition of the body, but it will certainly make this guy the convenient suspect.
I guess the bottom line is that nothing is too devious (or tin-foil) to suspect of the Washington power brokers -- even those as seemingly insignificant as Condit.
He certainly does seem like a likely candidate.
There was a report that Chandra's skull had been crushed, saw that somewhere today. Sounds like what happened to one of the other women who was dragged way off the path and rolled down the ravine, could be something that would have caused serious damage to someone as tiny as Chandra.
His mo was to pick out a likely target, a woman alone of small stature, follow her through the park...
I want to know where was this guy before May 1. Was he in jail? Since 1998?
In this particular case, the boyfriend was a married US Representative with known scumminess factors and every reason to believe that Chandra had not told anyone about the relationship, but soon would (when her expectations of a life with the low-life turned to bitter disappointment).
I don't know whether you've ever dealt with politicians. I've had the opportunity to observe some of them at much closer range lately. I've seen politicians take an action publicly that looked and sounded to be in support of a measure when the plan all along was to manipulate the progression of events to kill that measure deader than a doornail. The deceptive games that are played by many of our politicians boggle the mind. And I'm talking about deception and manipulation in the passing or non-passing of a simple BILL!!!
If that level of deception is employed simply in the legislative arena, do you think some of our politicians are above employing a high level of deception/ cover-up/ false evidence in a case involving something as serious as this? If you don't think that's at least quite possible, then you really need to start spending some time really getting to know even your local county or state-level politicians.
Suicidals do not neatly pack their bags and set them by the front door in anticipation of flying home the next day. They do not get on their computer and pay for airline reservations that they know they will never use. They do not call their parents and chatter on excitedly about finally finishing school and getting their degrees.
FWIW, I've been a runner for over 10 years and have NEVER seen a jogger/runner wearing a backpack, except when training for the Pikes Peak Ascent or Marathon.
Note that it's not my intent to paint all politicians with the same brush. Most of the politicians I've dealt with personally have been reasonably straightforward, and more than one has highly impressed me with an excellent level of personal integrity. But the fact is, there does exist a minority of politicians for whom (whatever "it" may be), I simply "wouldn't put it past 'em."
They don't cut into the skin and pinch, so they are more comfortable. Also, many non joggers that exercise wear them.
