I believe you're thinking of Coloumbo...
But anyway, poor Chief Wiggum is incapable of solving a crime.
Trust me, I've met many a Chief Wiggum and Chief Ramesy during my lifetime...
Actually the crime eventually gets solved and Chief Wiggum has nothing to with it.
"Err...well, we have no witnesses, no suspects, and no leads. If anyone has any explanations, dial '0' and ask for the police. That number again...'0'." --Chief Wiggum
1. Gary Condit was seen disposing of "something" in a trash receptacle some distance from his lodgings in DC. He also moved from the lodgings, which would have permitted a more thorough cleanup. There was also a reported late-night trip out to the Luray Caverns of Virginia, about the same time. All designed to throw investigators off the trail by providing tantalizing hints at something different at some other locality.
2. The body, when found, was at the bottom of a ravine, off a jogging trail. The remains were scattered, and the first thought was that the body had been dismembered and scattered. Apparently scavenging creatures had pulled apart the corpse, which may have been buried in a shallow grave. The near area had been searched not once but twice, with no trace at that time. But if the body had been held in cold storage, then placed there later (an hypothesis which has been suggested), of course they would have "missed" it. The body was dressed in what appeared to be jogging clothes, also an attempt to throw off the course of investigation. What clothes was she seen to be wearing when she departed her apartment one last time on May first? It is possible that the corpse had been dressed in this outfit, complete with a ?Walkman?, to give the impression that she had fallen from the path. One missed part of the of the accessories carried by the deceased - no keys. Not consistent with a jogger who had stepped out and was on a run.
3. Manner of death is still a matter of conjecture, but probably by some means that would NOT leave skeletal traces. Suffocation (not strangulation) is a possibility, as would be various poisons, or possibly exsanguination from a deep flesh or abdominal wound, or soft-tissue trauma.
OK, amateur sleuthes. Get to work. This is even better than armchair generalship.
The media seems to be leading the public in the direction of an accident,I don't like the smell....or lack of it.
The kooks are coming out in force.
OK...here's my take: Finding the body here let's Condit off the hook, IF it can be determined it was placed there at a later time; Gary was under entirely too much scrutiny to have had anything to do with such placement......and only the Tinfoil Hat crowd is gonna believe there was a conspiracy and some pal moved the corpse; MUCH too high-profile of a case!
