I'm Catholic and an evolutionist. What is "Orthodox Darwinean evolution?"

Those who take Darwin word for word and say that humans evolved from creatures EXACTLY like the simians of today. While I beleive that we are descended from an ape-like creature (with tails, of course!), are ancestors were not identical to Cheetah from Tarzan.

I would assume this is Gradualism. Gould and Eldridge's Punctuated Equilibrium theory was a pretty serious attack on this position (though in latter years it was described more diplomatically as a refinement).
