From all accounts, Gould was a gentle and scholarly soul. Alas, he was also a left-winger, like so many in academia. He wasn't perfect, but he was very good in his field, an excellent writer, and he never harmed anyone. It's very sad to see so many people on this thread who take delight in imagining that he will be roasting eternally.

Most true Christians I know take no delight in anyone "roasting eternally". In fact, many missionaries have given up their lives because of their sorrow on seeing souls lost. Jesus spoke of Hell. He also spoke of beginnings and the global Flood that many evolutionists ridicule.

So, in the end, we must all make up our mind. As C.S. Lewis put it so well, Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or is God Almighty. It's really that simple of a choice. I pray we all chose well.

The often overused "Judge not, lest ye be judged" scripture is referring to this just kind of eternal, condemnatory judgement.

Funny that such words from the Bible are most often used by atheists. There is nothing wrong in saying that an atheist should not be canonized. Gould was a very bad example to anyone going after him. Gould's final fate is not in our hands. However, his example can continue to lead others along the wrong path. It is the compassionate thing to point this out so that others may not share his fate.

What Gould called 'punctuated equilibria' is often pointed out by Darwin, but with the 4 bit words.

Actually that is quite true, and many of Gould's evolutionist attackers forget that. Darwin was quite a charlatan and was not beneath asserting that evolution was both gradual and non-gradual. In fact he also asserted that selection was the cause of evolution in the Origins and then in the Descent he asserted that the cause of evolution was sex. He was pretty shameless in trying to cover all the bases and calling everything evolution.
