My guess would be that CAIR and similar organizations decided, once 9/11 happened, to immediately shore up the reliability of certain favored politicians by giving them big donations. It would be very interesting to know what other politicians received donations from these people at the same time.

What determines the date of a donation? The date a check is signed? The date it clears? What if the donation is by credit card? I still have trouble understanding how donations could in fact be accomplished on 9/11, with so many offices shut.

The date of the donation is the date the money was received. Maybe since the offices were indeed closed, Cynthia had a great opportunity to work the phones, n'est-ce pas?!

The congressional offices being closed, that is. She could have gone down the street from Capitol Hill to use any other phone to make fundraising calls on that day.

This should clear some things up, I think. Who knows how her office handles these?

(see post 85 in this thread: Feds Searched Offices of 7 McKinney Donors)

An FEC spokesman said that campaigns are supposed to report donations on the date they receive them, which may not be the same date the gifts are made. One of McKinney’s September 11 contributors—Sabah Jabri, a retiree from San Diego—told Human Events that he sent his $250 contribution after receiving a fundraising letter from McKinney "some time during the summer."
