Afro-Cuba Web *** Boycott Florida - Perhaps it is time to remember the mechanics of the 3 year Miami boycott in the early 90's, called after riots over the execution style killing of a black man by a latino police officer in the 80's and a number of other raw racist behavior, especially the Cuban Americans insult to Nelson Mandela in 1990. Attorney H.T. Smith was a leader of the Boycott Miami committee. Estimates of lost business spanned the gamut from $40 million to $3 billion and the boycott was settled through some old fashion patronage, particularly the construction of a black owned convention hotel in Miami Beach:***

It does sound like what's good for the goose is good for the gander, does it?

Its management-level staff is nearly 100 percent African-American, Peebles said. Sounds to me like this place of business is ripe for a discrimination suit. Nearly 100% minority management staff cannot reflect the population in the area, so there must be discriminatory practices (never mind the owner flat out tells us there is and is proud about it).
"What we want to do is to have the best and brightest, and hopefully get to a point where no one will pay attention whether it's minority-owned or not minority-owned," Peebles said.
This may qualify as the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you're only hiring the best and brightest blacks and tell people this is yout plan, how in the world can you expect no one to notice. It's likely a good guess that if the owner didn't make a stink about the whole thing ( for the monoey I'd guess) no one would have noticed.

You know, that would really work. It never crossed my mind before but , as the old saying goes, "turn-about is fair play".

It certainly is a fine example of how differently Blacks and Whites are treated when it comes to discussing issues involving race.

Depending on the season, suites at the hotel range from $209 to $659 a night. Something tells me the hotel will have to offer discriminatory discounts if they want Negro guests to outnumber Caucasion/Hispanic guests.

Great! 100% African-American management! That must mean that none of those black folks from the Caribbean need apply, no African-Haitians, African-Jamiacans, etc. But, with that kind of African-American management, a non-black owned hotel might have to worry about black managers stealing the place blind. The white owned business would act as racists and assume that the black managers would steal, believing that it was OK to get "theirs" any way they could. Fortunately, a black owned business doesn't have to make the same assumptions because, well, a brother wouldn't steal from a brother.
I find it surprising that a business, once it shook down the city for capital, would stress it was black owned. Doesn't that just encourage some white racist organization to launch a boycott over something about which it has little or no control, like adopting a flag it didn't like or cops killing innocent white boys who were doing no, well, very little, harm?

There is a lot of money in the Black community. Not all Black people support Jesse Jackson or those in the above linked communist Afro-Cuba group.
I imagine Blacks world-wide will find Mr. Pebble's resort. Too bad some of them are dictators feeding off the misery of their people.
Thank goodness Mugabe of Zimbabwe, his supporters, their wives and children and his henchmen are prohibited from U.S. travel.

Can you imagine the uproar if someone bragged about planning to have their hotel be filled with white personnel?

He said 36 of the country's 80,000 limited- and full-service hotels are black-owned, along with about 40 smaller inns. Oh what a terrible thing it must be to be white. Out of 80,000 hotels in the US, you might get discrimiated against in about 80 of them. Now this is a serious problem.
