Law Professor: Law Sides With The Church
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The recent story of a 5-year-old being expelled from her church school because her mother is a stripper had a lot of tongues wagging Thursday. And the legality is among the first topics being discussed.
Christina Silvas, 24, works at Centerfolds in Rancho Cordova. That work pays her rent and her daughter's $400 monthly tuition at Capital Christian Center. The church gave Silvas the choice of quitting and getting some financial help from the church or having her child expelled from the school.

Way to demonstrate Christ's love to a five year old girl. Children love to be excluded--banished from their friends--nearly as much as they love it when you oppress their mothers.
But the little one should take comfort: doubtless these wise and beneficent shepherds of souls would have excluded Christ himself from their assembly. Our Lord tended to congregate with prostitutes and tax collectors and drinkers of wine while he walked this earth.

and in the "in case you were wondering" department...
Gold Club Centerfolds was the club mentioned in the article.
Her stage name is Samantha. (And a very patriotic girl she is)

Man, you are so wrong on this. Any church has to uphold standards of decency. And OUR Lord, (Why YOU bother to say "our" is a mystery) ate and spoke with prostitutes and tax collecters only to lead them away from sin, NOT to revel in or approve of their evil lifestyles. How could you so entirely miss the point? Or do you really know what is going on and simply excoriate those who try to do good? Just whom do you serve? Certainly not the Lord that you so monumentally fail to understand.
Sheesh!

I once had a Jewish friend who was looking into Christianity. He started going to a local church until one day a local prostitute walked in to join the service. They kicked her out claiming she wasn't the type they wanted in "their" church. He left forever, and he's still Jewish.
You're right. How long has it been since these idiots really looked at the man their saviour was?

If she was a current and non-repentant prostitute, then they were right to throw her out of their community. If she had repented, then they had no right expelling her. But your story sounds like a cheesey, uncreative and convenient LIE, with which to club your Christian enemies. Do you have to be so transparent?
To: Quila
I guess your friend was actually looking for a "feel good" social welfare club. Good riddance.
God save us from "crusading immorality."

Those crusading for immorality are the Impuritans of today's religion of materialistic hedonism. And they have more desperate and dangerous zeal than the Puritans of old.

Apparently Quila is a firm believer in the old adage "When in doubt, cliche'."

Great term! I'm keeping it!
I know what you mean though. I'd get truly angry if they weren't such myopic dullards. As it is, I figure pointing to the general direction of their error is sufficient to determine if they are "crusaders" or mearly untutored.

He left forever, and he's still Jewish Odd reaction, from the viewpoint that religious Judaism would support quite well the kind of "reception" the prostitute got. If he doesn't like it, that's great, but he should (1) read the New Testament for himself from the bible; (2) go to a different church.

But, hey, you're the expert. </sarcasm>
the school was between a rock and a hard place. they could well have chose to keep the child and teach her a christian morality, hoping and praying it would get back to the mother (kids have a way of zinging their elders between the eyes with an innocent comment or question)... but then the school would put themselves in doodoo with the other parents that they swore to a moral life.

Can you imagine how many folks would not be able to post about things Jesus did, or said, if they actually were required to back up their CLAIMS by Scripture ?
It would be great if a member of this church's congregation would be able to fill in a few of the details of this situation.
Perhaps by asking the mother to quit selling her body for cash, the Pastor was trying to show the mother how this activity will eventually harm her daughter psychologically?
Overall, I agree with the decision by the Pastor of the church.

I don't think the writer notes a difference between the race and the religion, so "religious" probably isn't a relevant term here.

This is a clear example of this Church's abandonment of Christ's teachings in favor of pompous self-righteousness.

I wonder if they have ever heard of Mary from Magdalah?
