Trusting The Force, House Empties For Screening
After losing six hours of House floor time Wednesday to resolve a jurisdictional dispute over the welfare reform reauthorization bill, House GOP leaders confronted a potentially more serious problem when roughly a quarter of the entire House said they would be spending the evening at the movies.
"They're all members with kids," said one GOP leadership aide. "It's a bipartisan effort."
Fomenting the near revolt was a special screening - open to members - of the latest Star Wars film, "Episode II - Attack of the Clones."
House leaders originally had scheduled the welfare debate to begin late Wednesday morning and conclude by early evening. However, leaders were forced to postpone the debate to fix a dispute involving the Ways and Means and the Appropriations committees.
To accommodate members wanting to attend the three-hour screening, GOP leaders agreed to roll votes until the end of the debate, but with one condition: "You have to come back," the aide said.

Hey, anytime they aren't in the chambers passing more spending bills is a good thing.

(Congress watching "Star Wars" on YOUR dime!)

Well, at least they're doing something constructive and educational.

It's good, but it could have been better. I'll post a review later tonight.

I'd be willing to give a lot more than a dime if they would spend all of their time watching movies!!!

I'm anxiously awaiting your review of Episode 2, Darth. Please put me on your Episode 2 review 'ping' list.

I bought tickets in advance for 6:00PM Thursday, but an opportunity presented itself to go to the 12:00AM Wednesday show, so I've had to suffer through Episode 2 twice.

No, just kidding. I thought it was great, both times.

Alot of critics complained that the obviously computer generated futuristic locations, in Episode 1, hindered a viewers ability to suspend disbelief for the length of the film. That was much less the case in Episode 2. The CGI effects in Episode 2 are nothing short of awesome.

The special effects are so good that I imagine that if the fans have any complaints, they will be that certain characters lacked the character development that they would have hoped for.

Those will be valid complaints, but in a movie that's only 2 hours long the director and producers have to make choices. I was pretty pleased with the choices they made and will look forward to the additional footage that I'm certain will be part of the DVD.
