The House Judiciary Committee chairman on Wednesday requested a judicial investigation of a federal appeals judge who says he inadvertently leaked information in 2000 that a grand jury had been convened to investigate then-President Clinton.

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., requested the investigation of Senior Appeals Judge Richard D. Cudahy, alleging the judge initially sought to hide his role and only acknowledged the leak after facing the threat of an investigation.

My favorite line from this AP article is that "(judge) Cudahy said in August 2000 he inadvertently told an Associated Press reporter during the Democratic presidential nominating convention for Al Gore that Ray had convened a grand jury to investigate whether Clinton should be indicted for false testimony. The AP has never identified the sources for its story."

Bet that AP still hammered the independent investigator for leaking information...

If anyone has been able to turn up a photo of Cudahy, I'd like a copy. Please contact via FReepmail.

I couldn't find a photo but I did find this article from 2000 Judge says leak wasn't political with the following lines:

The media and, consequently, many in the public, automatically blamed the Republicans, saying some operative must have leaked the story in an effort to embarrass the Democrats on the very day that their nominee, Vice-President Al Gore, was making his big acceptance speech at his party's convention in Los Angeles.

AP knew otherwise and said nothing. BIAS in action (or inaction).

Here's another bit "it was all an innocent" gaffe (that served as bait to lambast Republicans):

Cudahy is an unlikely snitch. Appointed to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 1979 by President Carter, he served as chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party.

In 1989, a study of government records by The Associated Press named him the wealthiest federal judge in the country with a net worth of $8.4 million.
