California's San Juan Capistrano schools dropped their Crusader nickname and mascot, though the community is overwhelmingly Christian, after a Muslim group that lived in the district raised objections...They caved in to madness.

"The term 'Red Devils' elicits immediate negative connotations that may be offensive to some individuals, particularly Native Americans, including members of the Navajo Nation." This is nuts. Devils have always been red according to my memory of things.

The raging contrversy over team mascots shows what a navel gazing society becomes embroiled in right before they are destroyed. Just think the Vietcong concentrated on killing as many Americans as possible and they won. If we could just concentrate on killing as many arabs as possible we might win!

Maybe all schools should be numbered, you know like I go to #10 school, no names at all. But then they would complain that they should be #1 or #2 & so one, I agree with post #2. Some people are a waste of oxygen, they need to get a life & in the words of Eddie Murphy "Have a coke & a smile and shut the f**k up!"

This is precisely why all right thinking people hate the Duke Blue Devils!

Interesting post. Maybe a few years ago, this wouldn't have been a big deal, but with the increasing marginalization of Christianity, and the assault on faith, some have realized that it's time to make a stand in their own community.

Oh, please.
No one could be that shallow, could they?

"Maybe all schools should be numbered, you know like I go to #10 school, no names at all." Or how about a bar code?? But that might be offensive to those who read binary (or hex, or whatever those things are coded in).

Not only hate Duke, but refuse to play Devil's Ridge Golf Course, nor vacation at Kill Devil Hills.

Any thoughts on the Demon Deacons?

"We basically explained that we are opposed to anything that makes reference to 'red devil,' which is a term that is offensive to Native Americans for obvious reasons," Pete said. The Navajo headpounders aren't the only ones who don't care for the red devils; the sentiment was also presumably shared by the nazis killed by the members of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division, who were responsible for the 82nd's nickname of *the Devils in baggy pants.*

That's MY town. And we ruled the day! The devil stays, 75-25 (better turnout than any election, too :)

Be an optimist, think of them as protein factories. ;-)

It really is ridiculous, is it not?

Another school ripe for the "Mighty Whitey" mascot.
