On Sunday, May 5, LAW organized a press conference in which it refutes Israeli claims that Palestinians had staged fake 'burials' in Jenin. The fake 'burials', the Israeli army spokesmen say, were an attempt to "prove" that there were many more Palestinians killed than actually were.

However, at the press conference, LAW showed and compared footage taken from an Israeli military drone on April 28, 2002, and footage taken by Palestinian film producer, Mohammad Bakri, who was shooting at the same site.

What the footage actually shows is a group of children playing "funeral" near the cemetry in Jenin. It is not uncommon in the occupied Palestinian territories to witness Palestinian children playing a game where they pretend they have been killed. It is part of a phenomenon raising fears among child experts and that a generation in the Palestinian territories has suffered serious psychological damage from Israeli violence directed against the Palestinian civilian population.

Moreover, the footage does not show a typical funeral, since there were no flags, which usually is seen at many Palestinian funerals, and the children were running, which is not common for an actual funeral.

Israeli and foreign media quoted the head of field intelligence for land forces in the Israeli army, Colonel Miri Eisen, who said that "the film speaks for itself," adding "they tried to fabricate evidence of funerals to inflate the number of their dead."

The media uncritically took up the Israeli spokesmen conclusions, without investigating what the footage actually shows.

It is not first time that Israeli army spokesmen fabricate distortions, including, blaming Palestinian parents for their childrens' death, and that Palestinian children are "just killed by accident".

Well, now it all falls into place. I was wondering about all those "mourners" running in terror when the corpse got up. Now I know it was just the local women. All the gals in the neighborhood here are just terrified when the boys play army. When the kids yell, "Kapow! Kapow!," one of the women (about 35 years of age, interestingly enough), claims they are German 88s from the Second World War. We keep telling her the kids are playing Gulf War, and she should be hearing something else, but she won't listen.

Maybe the 88s have damaged her hearing.

Well I was really fooled when I saw this footage. But, I guess I must take what they say as the truth, not what I saw. /NOT/

I was really fooled when the "corpse" fell off, then stood up while some of the "mourners" cried out and then scattered in fear at the dead coming back to life. Allah sure moves in mysterious ways...

The Mossad's motto has nothing over a people whose terrorist-mongering leaders, majority religion and core beliefs encourages even the smallest children among them to deceive, destroy and/or murder Jews and other infidels in the name of holy jihad. (It's only a crime when the Jews and infidels decide to fight back!)

You could be right, although I would prefer to see some evidence (e.g., the film footage) before coming to that conclusion.

In the absence of evidence, I have to ask myself: Which side is more credible? (Hint: Which side has opposition parties, an opposition press, free elections, and a functioning judiciary?)

They do some good by reporting on violations of human rights and environmental problems in the occupied territories.

Do they report on violations of human rights committed by the PLO/PA? (For example, have they said anything about the murder without trial of alleged "collaborators"?) Or is that too dangerous?

I thought at first they might be out-takes. You know, those amusing moments when an actor muffs his lines or accidentally trips, there's a mis-cue, or a prop malfunctions. LAW's press conference set me straight. This was just a bunch of kids playing funeral.

So many of their silly claims have been debunked that it is simply embarrassing to post more of them here. Ah, yes. Out-takes. I work in radio production, and have quite an extensive collection of out-takes. Radio, television, film, you name it.

I've never seen or heard of an out-take, though, that caused the extras to run in terror.

I've never known of an innocent game kids were playing that caused the grown-ups to run in terror.

Except for the lady who thought the five year olds yelling "Kapow" was German 88s. (Confession: I made her up).

LAW has found evidence that at the same time an Israeli military camera shot what it said was a fake 'burial', a Palestinian producer was shooting a film at the same site. What was perceived as a staged 'burial' was actually acting for a film. At the press conference LAW will host the producer of the film, as well as show excerpts of what the producer was filming, which shows the same persons as the so-called staged 'burial'. - Palestinian group admits Jenin funeral staged- but claims was for a movie
