It was worth voting for Zell Miller, just to listen to him talk about democrats on the federal level. Also, I have liked most of the actions he has taken in D.C.
The reason Republicans' lost the Senate was because of one traitorous RINO.
In Washington, where less than 5000 (1500 ?) votes - all of which could have been challenged as illegal democrat votes) turned out a republican.
In Missouri, where a dead man was "allowed" to remain on the ballot, in the contest (by the locals), voted in as "his wife" as the cadidate by the demo's, and then voted in by illegal ballots cast after hours, and by illegal voters....
In GA, where a sitting republican died in office, and was arbitarily replaced by a democrat by the governor's decree.
In New Mexico, also wehre tainted ballots elected a false democrat winner.
In CT, where a democrat, (Lieberman) was allowed to run twice (as a senator and as a VP candidate) although previous Senate pressure and rules forced the withdrawal (and resignation!) of republican senators who campaigned for national office.
In New York, where blantant illegal campaign funding of Hillary's campaign by national (White House) funding gave her extra expsoure and (for exampel) where upstate homes were given national oil reserves as winter gifts.
Both parties are guilty of pulling this stunt. But Zell was elected to that office in 2000.
By the way, you forgot Chicago, where dead voters out number the living.

Those are the numbers from the American Conservative Union. Backers of the conservative movement in America since Goldwater in '64.
Looking at FACTS isn't too fun when you want to sit on your high horse and scream about the evil Yankees, is it? Most of your "conservative" Democrats are further left than Jeffords. The national DNC can't wait to foist the likes of John Edwards and Max Cleland on the rest of us. And you yellow-dogs keep electing them. A whooping two or three of your "moderate" Democrats (Breaux, Miller, etc.) managed to score about the SAME rating as a some New England RINOs (that means they vote like Olympia Snowe and Arlen "Scottish Law" Specter), so if you're happy with that, then that's your problem. Enjoy your CFR, open borders, and taxpayer funded pork projects. No one with a "conservative" rating of 40% is going to get my vote in EITHER party.
Of course, statements like yours that prove the article's point. Dixiecrats have NOT "joined" the Republican Party. They're still Dixiecrats. You guys have blindly voted Democrat for 120 years and show no sign of stopping. Grandpa voted for FDR Dems and so will you. It's unfortunate that REAL southern Republicans have to deal with your bad judgment. If it weren't for yellow-dog 'RATs, guys like Fritz Hollings would have been gone YEARS ago.
Fortunately, Southern DemonRATS never run head-to-head against Yankee Republicans except for POTUS, and every Southern GOPer I've seen is more conservative than his RAT counterpart, and likewise in the North. Both Daschle and Gephardt are full-bore Socialists and to support them in the Leadership vote and in other partisan battles is to surrender any serious claim to Conservative Values. Despite Dubyuh's inexplicably-weird tilt to the Left in favor of his "Compassionate" brand of Conservatism, relatively-speaking the GOP is still far to the Right of the unabashedly-collectivist RATS.

The LOSS of the seat was by democratic decree, not election.
You are either stupid or ignorant. I'm not sure which. To not understand that Miller was elected in 2000 because he was a good Governor.

Sure, he ran in the special election in 2000 - as an incumbent democrat. Not as a retired governor. Not as a incumbent, and NOT against a very popular republican.
Can you count? Only THREE of the Democrat Senators (out of 15 in office) had a conservative rating identical to NEW ENGLAND Republicans, let alone the conservative ones! The REST of the southern Democrat senators (all twelve of them) are MORE LIBERAL THAN JEFFORDS. Why do you think a whooping THREE southern Democrats means the whole region is "usually conservative"? If you can locate a MAJORITY of southern Democrats that are "more conservative" than the Republicans we have here, by all means, let me know. Good luck.
Besides, your MODERATE Democrat Senators aren't even AS conservative as the "moderate" Republicans we have here in the midwest. I'll take Fitzgerald here (ACU 88%) over Zig Zag Zell Miller anytime. At least Fitzgerald won't vote to clone humans, keep Daschel, the marriage tax, the dairy cartel, and all the other liberal garbage your "moderate" southern Democrats support.
Or do you need me to list all the other office holders?
I guarantee you that most of the southern Democrat Governors will not be "more conservative" than Midwestern Republican governors (except maybe the soon-to-indicted RINO here in Illinois, and he's already more liberal than half the Illinois Democrats). The southern Democrat congressman CERTAINLY will not be "more conservative" than the voting records of Republicans up here. Here in "liberal" Illinois, I'll take Crane, Mazullo, Ewing, Hyde, Smirkus over ANY Democrat congressman they have in Georgia, Virginia, and so forth.
Exactly! The constitution expressly forbids passing an Ex Post Facto law. You can't go to jail or sue someone for doing something that was legal at the time (or at least in theory) Why don't we hear this arguement more often? (The last question was rhetorical. I think the answer is pretty obvious to anyone reading this thread.)
