SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A suspected pipe bomb was found in the parking lot of a San Antonio apartment complex on Tuesday, but authorities say they don't believe it was part of a series of similar devices found recently in Amarillo and four other states.

A paper bag with a fuse sticking out was discovered by a resident of the Timbercreek Apartments at about 9 a.m., said Sgt. Gabe Trevino, a spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department.

"It was very apparent that it was some sort of explosive device," he said.

The bag and its contents were detonated by the department's bomb squad a couple of hours later in a nearby dry creek bed on the city's northwest side, Trevino said.

The remnants will be analyzed by city and federal investigators to determine its components.

Both Trevino and FBI spokesman Rene Salinas said the suspected bomb was not the work of the person or group responsible for leaving a trail of exploded and unexploded pipe bombs in the upper Midwest, Colorado and the Texas Panhandle.

Salinas said that belief is based on "an analysis of the (San Antonio) device and comparing it to details we know of the other devices." He would not elaborate on any distinctions.

Trevino said there were no immediate suspects in the case.

Looks like the suspect bomber Helder was never in Texas and we have either a copycat bomber or someone who has a grudge against the victim.

"A paper bag with a fuse sticking out"

If there was some residual silver or gold paint on the sack, then it leans toward the Latin Kings. It was a real bomb, then source another group 'cause the Latin Kings do not have the brains to assemble something.

What if it really is the work of the same pipe bomber, but the FBI is intent upon "Richard Jewel-ing" this nutty, little Kurt Cobain worhipper?

San Antonio is no stranger to pipe bombs. There have been several incidents of pipe bombs in mail boxes there in the past.
