Dutch elections will go on!
Dutch radio | May 07 2002

Posted on 05/07/2002 7:30:58 AM PDT by knighthawk

After a meeting with Wim Kok and List Pim Fortuyn, it is decided that the Dutch elections will go on as planned on May 15.

Yesterday Pim Fortuyn, party leader of LPF was shot dead by an extreme left activist.

There were doubts wether the elections would still go on.

List Pim Fortuyn decided to go on and that the May 15 elections will still be held.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting.

Thanks for the good news.

He will stay on the voting list. His name cannot be removed, law states so. There is nothing about who will replace him.

Wow. This could get interesting.....

There is no excuse for violence in the democratic process. I hope the shooting will not lead to more rightwing violence in Europe. His supporters must remember that there is no room for mindless violence in a democracy.

It's the left committing mindless acts of violence. That will be very difficult for leftists to acknowledge. Leftists always have a problem with the truth.

>I think this is a little more serious; Alan Berg wasn't poised to bring the US out of the clutches of socialism....and he was murdered by aryan nation bank-robbers...

Fortuyn wasn't poised to bring anyone out of "the clutches of socialism" either. His party got big votes only in one local election. (Heck, there are counties in the US where, in local elections, LaRouche gets a respectable turnout.) He was a populist playing to "the common man," and engaging in typical Marxist dialectic, pitting US (citizens) against THEM (immigrants) to acquire political power.

Berg, too, acquired his popularity by playing the populist game and, apparently like Fortuyn, it was one of the unwashed masses that he played to who decided to play back...

Live by the nuts, die by the nuts. The Berg/Fortuyn comparison seems frivolous, but it has a real message, when you bear in mind Gale Weather's observation that "Pop culture is the politics of the 21st century." Berg and Fortuyn were, for all practical purposes, playing the same game. Trying to win the hearts and minds of a population. They both tried the same strategy -- appeal to the most hoi polloi of the hoi polloi. And the both, so to speak, drowned in the hoi polloi tide they tried to surf... Live by the nuts, die by the nuts.

I wasn't trying to play with anyone's head here. What I posted above wasn't mine. It's actually part of an article written in todays Times. I just didn't want to start another thread on this subject, but felt IF this quote was REAL someone may wish to comment on it.

You will find the quote here

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-289440,00.html

It is supposedly from a spokesman for President Bush.

Keep smiling,

Philip.

the way this works is that the election decides who is in the parliament, and the parliament selects the prime minister. THis is why the word "list" is used. The party selects their representatives, and then depending on the proportion of the vote that the PARTY receives, they go down the list and that number of people are the ones who serve in the parliament. Since no one party will earn a majority, there will be a coalition government, and the parties making up the coalition get together and decide who the Prime Minister and the other cabinet officials will be. This is actually the basic way governments are chosen in most of Europe. Proportional representation off of party lists.

I wish you well and hope the leftist rats have created a martyr and that the ensuing backlash flushes them right out of your country. I also hope al Qaida gets flushed out with them.

The fully corrupt left was alarmed by Le Pen/Jospin, following on earlier successes by Haidar, Berlusconi, etc. When I heard about this assassination I knew they were totally panicked. Of course, this was done by a lone nut.

We've had lone nuts here too. There was a psychotic guy a couple of years ago who killed two DC leos on his way to get Tom Delay. Nearly got him, too. It's frightening to have to compete polically against the violently insane. I'm glad the Dutch are going ahead.

Police saying he was radical enviro working with a group called Milieu Offensief.

DPA reports: On his webpage, he said he opposed intensive livestock farming -which he describes as factory farming - and raising fur-bearing animals for profit. The Dutch news agency ANP said Fortuyn had recently announced that he would rescind a planned ban on raising fur-bearing animals for profit. Parliamentary elections scheduled for May 15 will not be postponed on account of the murder, the government said.

It's starting to look like Fortuyn was killed because he supported mink farms.

But they're all the same. Could have been animal rights, or Starbucks foes, or whatever. All loony fellow-travellers. And of course can't rule out that the guy was exploited by others. (nod to those who will say I am trying to dismiss possible broader story)

I am a bit depressed, but we will go on, for Fortuyn. He will not be forgotten and we will find a way to go on.

The country is still in shock and there is much outrage about his demonization. The police said that the killer acted alone and was maybe 'stressed'.
