Don't forget:

Leader: "Airborne Rangers Jump from Planes!"

Platoon: "THAT'S BECAUSE THEY'VE GOT NO BRAINS!"

Ah, yes.

My wife and I were walking in Balboa Park last night when we heard the House of Scotland Pipe Band practicing for an upcoming show. Marvelous stuff, makes you want to paint yourself blue, grab a claymore, and go hunt for that heathen Osama bin Laden!

Not that I think it's the greatest military song but I'm currently listening to "Echo Park" by Keith Barbour so I guess I'll mention it.

The theme from "Patton." If it has another name, I don't know it.

Gracious, there has been some really great military music!

Just about every one mentioned is fine, I especially like the Sousa marches. Also the "Story of Private Roger Young".

No list would be complete without "Scotland The Brave". I once read where Robert Burns said the tune to that song was played by Robert Bruce before Bannockburn but with different words.

Yes, the 82nd Airborne Chorus version is good. But, I thought my own rendition (performed while executing a front left riser slip in the harness shed at Ft. Benning) was pretty fair too. ;-)

You know, the "Ft. Benning Boys Choir" version...

"suspended agony"

Mademoiselle from Armentieres

Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Mademoiselle from Armentieres,
She hasn't been kissed for forty years,

Chorus: Hinky-dinky parlez-vous.

2. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
She got the palm and the croix de guerre,
For washin' soldiers' underwear,
Chorus:

3. The Colonel got the Croix de Guerre, Parlez-vous
The Colonel got the Croix de Guerre, Parlez-vous
The Colonel got the Croix de Guerre,
The son-of-a-gun was never there!
Chorus:

4. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
You didn't have to know her long,
To know the reason men go wrong!
Chorus:

5. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
She's the hardest working girl in town,
But she makes her living upside down!
Chorus:

6. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
The cooties rambled through her hair;
She whispered sweetly "C'est la guerre."
Chorus:

7. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
She'll do it for wine, she'll do it for rum,
And sometimes for chocolate or chewing gum!
Chorus:

8. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
You might forget the gas and shell
But you'll nev'r forget the Mademoiselle!
Chorus:

9. Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Armentieres, Parlez-vous
Where are the girls who used to swarm
About me in my uniform?
Chorus:

10. Oh, Mademoiselle from St. Nazaire, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from St. Nazaire, Parlez-vous
The Mademoiselle from St. Nazaire,
She never washed her underwear.
Chorus:

11 Oh, Mademoiselle from Aix-Les-Bains, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Aix-Les-Bains, Parlez-vous
Mademoiselle from Aix-Les-Bains,
She gave the Yankees shooting pains!
Chorus:

12. Oh, Mademoiselle from Montparnasse, Parlez-vous
Oh, Mademoiselle from Montparnasse, Parlez-vous
As soon as she'd spy a Colonel's brass,
She'd take off her skirt and roll in the grass!
Chorus:

Definately the Marines Hymn, but the Battle Hymn of the Republic makes a good alternate.

Jimmy driftwoods, "Battle of New Orleans." It's a fun song especially if any Brits are present.

Here are the lyrics.

In 1814 we took a little trip
along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin' on
down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we seen the British come.
And there must have been a hundred of'em beatin' on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring.
We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets til we looked 'em in the eyes
We held our fire til we seen their faces well.
then we opened up with squirrel guns and really

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our cannon til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind
and when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

Hup 2, 3, 4. Sound off 3, 4.... Hup 2, 3, 4.
Sound off 3, 4.... Hup 2, 3, 4

My Dad, an Army C-7 Caribou pilot out of Can Tho in '65-'66, would have agreed with that statement. "Anyone who'd jump out of a good-runnin' aircraft has gotta have a screw loose".

And I'll second "anything on the pipes". Imagine charging uphill at those squares at Waterloo with that racket wailing away!

That was the idea--the charging troops were trying to get away from the pipers and get some peace and quiet =:o)
