Protest: A conservative activist gives away firearms to circumvent Chicago's concealed weapon law. Low costs mean 'I can keep doing this forever,' he says.

CHICAGO -- As anti-gun groups across the nation offer everything from cash to free pizzas to people willing to turn in their firearms, a joyfully antagonistic pro-gun rights group is giving away handguns to residents in Chicago, where merely possessing one is a felony.

I have often suggested a "gun of the month" club--only very few could afford to join!

Under state law, to legally transport a handgun, the gun must be unloaded and in a closed case or other container. Many holster makers produce fanny packs specifically for carrying handguns, and Birch suggested such packs were legitimate firearm containers.

In May 2001, Birch urged gun owners to take their fanny packs to one of the city's most crowded events, the annual Taste of Chicago, where about 3 million people converge on downtown's Grant Park over a week and a half to sample local food and hear music.

The mayor was outraged. The police chief promised to arrest anyone who tried such a thing. The Cook County state's attorney promised to prosecute. Local newspapers lambasted the idea as silly and potentially disastrous.

LOL!!!!!

I find it refreshing that the anti-gun groups never once offer insurance policies, at their cost, to anyone who surrenders their constitutional right to bear arms! It is clearly evident that when guns are outlawed crime rates jump. Look at what is happening in Australia and England...

How can it be a felony to bear arms as outlined in the Constitution? Liberals want full control, which they can't get with armed citizens.

"...to circumvent Chicago's concealed weapon law."

Let's be clear here, since the author wasn't: Illinois does not permit concealed carry. The City of Chicago does not permit even the possession of a gun in your home.

"As anti-gun groups across the nation offer everything from cash to free pizzas to people willing to turn in their firearms"

And I repeat my question: If "no-questioned-asked" so-called "gun buybacks" take place, is not everyone involved in the transaction guilty of a federal crime?...to wit: trafficking in firearms without completing the necessary paper work?...

And should not these people be reported to the BATF or other law-enforcement agency, and arrested forthwith?

This and the Morley suit are opening salvos in taking back our rights. The grabbers are on the defensive now. Can't wait to beat them in court.

"Kel-Tec .32-caliber semiautomatic ... worth $300"

That gun is about $100 at the gun show I went to here in Texas last weekend.

What is the "Morley suit"? Doesn't have anything to do with the wearing apparel of the British actor, does it?
How could Robert Morley's clothes help us?

...the man plans to pick up the gun, worth $300, out in the suburbs and break the law when he crosses back into the city.

So, the man should stash the gun somewhere in the suburbs, return to the city, forbid the police from searching his car (of course they will anyway). Then wait until they've searched his house (they'll most likely find someone to rubberstamp a warrant). If they try a third time, he should file a lawsuit for the city's abridgement of his rights.

Re: Kel-Tek - NIB $100 (more or less) There was everything from .22 to .380. The .380 was $109.
