One thing bugs me, though. Is it true that blacks are the most economically deprived group in the US? How about Native Americans? Mexican Americans? African Americans have made great strides into the middle class in the last 20 years.
I just can't help but think that the writer of the piece assumes that blacks here are all still poor, and everyone else is white and rich. I hope at least the researchers did their homework.
I thought the same thing re: black incomes when I read this late last night. On first impression, I'm really not sure that the data they cite is correct (although it may be). I do know that the average black income as late as the Sixties or so hovered around 30-40% of the national average. As such, an improvement in a mere three decades to ~70% of the national average ain't nothing to spit at! Of course, you won't hear this good news from the 'civil rights establishment.' Tangible economic progress of the groups they represent cuts in to their raison d'etre.
