Shot in the dark question: Anyone know of any good online strategy games?

I am looking for an online strategy game to play.
I am not talking about some corny Dungeons & Dragons affair.
Something that halfway resembles real situations.
Any ideas?

Well a good Sci-fi RTS would be Star Craft/Brood War. The game is a few years old, but it is still good.

Total Annihilation is the ultimate. It is fururistic, but will take you for the best strategy ride that money can buy. It is an older game, but you can probably still get it at www.cavedog.com.

Try TROPICO by PopTop Software. An interesting strategy & development game that's fun to play.

It looks as though you have found such a game as this certainly is. May your strategies befuddle all but those closest to you. Except me?

There are very few good computer games, unfortunately.
I like Microsoft's Age of Empires and the accompanying Age of Empires Rome Expansion pack. Age of Empires II has better visuals, but I don't think the game is as good. And I like Civilization III. I have not tried the new Empire Earth game, which is designed by the people who did Age of Empire, but that's another possibility.

Try Diplomacy, it is very intense and fun, 100% negotiation skill and 0% chance.

Strategypage.com has reviews of several strategy games and an advertisement for Gary Grigsby's latest Pacific War game covering 1941 through 1943 SW and Central Pacific camapigns. Grigsby's earlier game covering that time period was outstanding and taught me more about the interaction of modern air/sea/land combat than any military history I have ever read.

For online multiplayer gaming, I like playing Age of Empires II with The Conquerors Expansion. If you like Star Wars, Gallactic Battlegrounds uses the same engine and uses the same user interface as AOE. If I want to play single player RTS missions, I prefer Starcraft or Red Alert 2, which are both story-driven. Starcraft is about 4 years old, so don't expect killer graphics. The gameplay is pretty cool, however.

Stronghold is pretty good. You build your castle and defend it. You can on-line game or play by yourself.
Civ3 is good also but you cannot do multiplayer games yet. But the expansion pack should be out soon.
