[Michael] Moore’s ‘Columbine’ Targets Denver

‘In a bizarre way, it sort of lets the shooters off the hook, saying that they’re just part of a culture of violence. I think it’s going to really upset a lot of people.’

May 1 — Michael Moore’s new film is about Columbine in Colorado, but the flick isn’t likely to get any gala screenings there. “Bowling for Columbine” deals with tragic shootings at the high school three years ago and it is not kind to Columbine, says a source.

“IT LAYS THE BLAME for the event squarely on the shoulders of the violent culture in the Denver and Columbine [Littleton, Colo.] area,” says an insider familiar with the flick. “Michael sees the Denver area as having very violent, military culture. After all, Lockheed Martin makes weapons of mass destruction there.”

“Bowling for Columbine” premieres at Cannes later this month.

The title of the film comes from how the killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, took a bowling class not long before the shootings.

“The concept is that violence is just another all-American sport,” says the source. “In a bizarre way, it sort of lets the shooters off the hook, saying that they’re just part of a culture of violence. I think it’s going to really upset a lot of people.” Moore was forbidden from filming inside the Columbine school, but somehow, sneaked in a camera crew.

There hasn’t, however, been much buzz about the film in the area. When Moore was in Denver recently promoting his best-selling book, “Stupid White Men,” only one person asked about “Bowling for Columbine”: Jeffrey Kass, a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News, who is writing a book about the tragedy. Moore expressed surprise that there wasn’t more curiosity about the film, then dodged Kass’ question. “I think he didn’t want to be seen as promoting something so sensitive and incendiary,” says Kass told the Scoop. Moore’s office didn’t return calls for comment.

A more reliable indicator of problems among teens and in schools in general is school size.

http://www.cepan.ca/issues/school_size_main.htm

EXCERPT: Conventional thought places the optimum school size at approximately 500 students. This number of students generally is the most manageable for instructional and administrative purposes and yields a favorable judgment in terms of economy of scale or value for the dollar.

Behavior in schools varies greatly depending on enrollment. There is far more negative behavior in larger schools than smaller schools; gang participation, vandalism, theft, and substance abuse are examples of behaviors that are more likely to be found in the larger school environment.

Good attendance is more prevalent in smaller schools. Students who have transferred from larger schools to smaller schools tend to improve their attendance significantly as compared to when students transfer from smaller to larger schools.

Dropouts occur in higher numbers in larger schools. This is directly related to a lack of enthusiasm and the attitude that students develop in larger schools; the attitude that they are less significant, brought on by the large number of other students and their own insignificance.

What I noticed is that he mentioned that Denver had a "military culture" as though he feels there is something wrong with the military (which I'm sure he does).

Another liberal buries his head in the sand and spouts his lies. Only a pansy would consider bowling a violent sport, but I guess masculinity has never been a defining characteristic of many liberals. What's obvious is not that the area has a violent culture but that this idiot simply dislikes any culture but his own. As usual, the liberals are the ones with no tolerance. The other fact that he fails to mention is that the parents of the killers were liberals. Whatever culture he thinks may exist around Littleton, Colorado, these boys grew up in a liberal culture. Of course, no liberal is going to have the integrity to admit that liberal culture produces bad things.

Ah, the fat sow, Moore's really breaking new ground here. In typical socialist style, he's actually produced a movie that blames an abstraction (our "violent culture") rather than the shooters themselves.

Of course, I wonder if the sow applies that same logic to, say, teen pregnancy or drug abuse.

I wonder, what way do you think he will find to blame the Bush/Cheney familes, Enron, and big oil for the massacre?

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, took a bowling class not long before the shootings...Harris also took an "Anger Management" class at about the same time and reportedly enjoyed it...Moore doubtless would approve of that, but I bet it isn't mentioned in the movie...

Shoot, my graduating class alone had 482 and that was in 1968.

This guy should look at the blue states and their inner-city schools. I grew up in the L.A. area and trust me, there is far more violence in L.A. schools than in Colorado schools. I know this guy is a moron and nobody takes him seriously, but I really can't stand him.
