Anti Republican Hit Piece: "Bad Will Hunting"

Don't blame me. I'm just posting the B.S. here.

Freep the author at: http://www.theopinion.com/engine/article.asp?id=1254 _______________ BAD WILL HUNTING by Len Hart April 22, 2002

The Republican obsession with Bill Clinton has reached absurd and neurotic proportions.

The durability of Bill Clinton as a Republican scapegoat is one of the marvels of our age. Republicans felt acute separation anxiety when Clinton's term ended, but their fears proved groundless: He may have left the White House, but he had not left the front page or the consciousness of those who regarded him as the model of what not to be. Mary McGrory, Washington Post, Sunday, March 10, 2002

That the Republicans would try to blame Clinton for Bush's tanking economy and the downside effects of his tax cut for rich folk is to be expected. The Republicans have become so predictable you can win bets with them quicker than Enron insiders can short sell a crooked company's stock. Since Ronald Reagan, the Republican party as a whole has sought to blame liberals, Democrats, and intellectuals for an encyclopedic list of real and imagined crimes. Specifically, fundamentalist right-wingers--short on credible slanders--called Clinton Satan Incarnate from the pulpit; he was accused of mass murder, procuring, fraud, and real estate scams. Why stop there I wonder? Why not throw in demonology, witchcraft, and necromancy for good measure. Robert Ray's recent absurd statements notwithstanding, there was, of course--by Starr's own admission--absolutely nothing to Kenneth Starr's four year and $40 million Whitewater investigation. Billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife couldn't even buy a witness to the more credible allegations--let alone the more fantastic charges which border on mass Republican psychosis. Clinton was attacked on at least two fronts: that Kenneth Starr, the puppet-lawyer of big tobacco who conducted his jihad with public funds; and a cowardly "whisper campaign" financed by Scaife and other rich Republicans, a campaign not hamstrung or hampered by the niceties of due process of law, evidence, or justice.

It was Republicans who were more distressed by Clinton's departure than Democrats. Republicans must surely understand deep in their black hearts that the phony issues they raise are nothing but focus group platitudes, empty promises, rhetoric, and lies. And robbed of their favorite whipping boy on whom they could project and blame for their own worst and ignoble motives, those lies are nothing if not transparent. But most recently, Ari Fleischer--desparate for a strawman, desparate for a smokescreen--tried to blame Clinton for the Palestinian intifada and the on-going blood fued in the middle east! But before I could say "Have you no shame?," Fleischer took it all back.

Sorry, but the retraction is too late not to prove my point.

If "liberals" did not exist, Republicans would find it necessary to invent them and would do so. Clinton was no liberal but the typical Republican is having none of that. Clinton is, by God, a "liberal" and more besides: he is Satan!

Of course Republicans will not admit the truth but truth is--they would be nothing without their cherished Satan--the man whom they blame for everything that is wrong with the world, and their own shallow, SUV infested lives. I suppose they just want to feel good about themselves--but isn't that asking too much?

It is doubtful that I really care how Republicans manage to deal with their own consciences; I can assure you--the issue of how much sleep the lying Republicans manage to get at night doesn't keep me awake. I have sweet dreams. By the way, the nature of Republican dreams can be documented. Published psychological studies indicate that Republicans have more nightmares and negative dreams than do normal people! It's in the public record. Here is a short excerpt:

Nightmares among the group studied included...fighting a corpse in a car and being trapped in a public bathroom with bears and a gun that doesn't work.1 Clinton is their demon as long as they wish to keep his memory alive for their nefarious purposes, propaganda, and rallying the self-righteous Religious Right.2 And when the Republicans figure out a way to impeach him again--though he is no longer President--don't say I didn't warn you!

I submit that Reagan very nearly succeeded in putting a smiley face on Joseph McCarthy--an effort which continues to inspire the current occupant of the Oval Office. Reagan's tactics--and by proxy those of the Shrub--are merely sugar-coated McCarthyism:

deny reality and truth deny responsibility and shift it; raise the spector of a powerful "scapegoat" for whom a litany of evils and your own failures can be blamed. McCarthy raised the spector of international communism--a tactic which continued to work well years later for the Reagan regime. It was indeed fortuitous for Newt Gingrich and the rabid Republicans that Clinton came along concurrent with the fall of the Soviet "Evil" Empire without which the Republican gang would have been bereft. Lacking a real bogeyman, they would just have to make do with Clinton! Convenient! Some parting questions for Republicans: can't you be honest about your agenda just once? Who among you will admit that you are not really interested in debate or power sharing? Are you afraid that if you admit that all you really want to do is to dictate the national agenda, criminalize what you find offensive, and impose your shallow values upon the citizens of the United States and the world, that you will be labeled "fascist?" Are you not afraid you will be labeled "hypocrite" if you don't? How can you have it both ways?

Finally--some advice for Democrats, (GASP!!!) liberals, and normal people: be patient with Republicans whom Bertrand Russell would have categorized as latter day puritans. You must understand that Republicans have a symbiotic, incestuous, dysfunctional relationship with "evil"--real or imagined; it is their substitute for rational thought, policy, and statesmanship.

If Clinton were not around we still would have a wealth of eminently bashable, dishonest liberals. But he is around, so why spare him?

"The durability of Bill Clinton as a Republican scapegoat is one of the marvels of our age."

You don't have to read further than this. First of all, "Republicans" have harder ever said a word about Clinton. The exposure of Clinton was conducted by outside independent conservatives and libertarians, not elected officials and not the Republican Party. Second, Clinton has been out of office only a year and a fraction. The 'RATs were still running against Herbert Hoover 60 years after he was President. This author is a liar and a fraud.
